Nope. Your closest option is probably JRI in Los Angeles. I had my resurface done there 9 weeks ago (I live in Boulder, too). > How do you receive an appropriate consult from surgeons who don't > do the procedure? Basically, you don't. You get your X-rays sent to a resurfacing surgeon for evaluation. > How to gauge waiting before intervention while the the femoral > head is still okay? That's a pretty touchy issue. We've had at least two people in this group end up with THRs because they waited too long. Two years ago, when I still had some cartilage, my complaint was that my hip hurt after a 3-5 mile run or a bike ride over 15 miles. Last summer, I couldn't run at all nor could I even get on a bike. By November, I knew I'd gone bone-on-bone and the pain was excruciating. I wish I'd gotten resurfaced two years ago. Don't wait too long! > Frequency of x-ray? The use of drugs? Maintaining alignment thru movement and conscious activity? I can't take NSAIDS, so my medication options were rather limited. I finally had to quit yoga because it started making things worse. All the alignment in the world won't help once your bones start grinding one another into dust. > I am 54 in Boulder, doing lots of yoga, modified by pain these days. Can't hike as the high country beckons. The information is quite overwhelming. And then there's the consideration of waiting as long as possisible as the technology improves like lightening. If you wait too long, it won't be possible to resurface you. Besides, what's the point of living in Paradise if you hurt too much to enjoy it? If you'd like to discuss resurfacing, call me 3 0 3 - 4 1 5 - 0 3 2 7. Yes, , you can call too ;-). Guest guest
Hi , Lightening changes may occur in computer technology but sadly it doesn't appear to apply to hip replacements........... It is true that some extra cups and other bits are being added to a Resurface prothesis but basically I have the same as who got her's 15 years ago............and then in your country there is apparently a very long process involved in just getting that basic prothesis approved for general use...........so your insurance coys gets to pay for it and you can afford it............. It is a similiar story with the THR as they make them out of different materials, fiddle with the shaft and cement etc............ but basically it is still a shaft with a ball on top............... the actual change of technology to a Resurface is still struggling to be accepted..........i.e. after 15 years of use in UK, USA is still fiddling with approval............ so you are talking very long waits for anything new........... I waited 35 years for my hip............. there is far too much damage to a range of other body parts including major damage to the spine after that sort of wait............ Others report similiar damage after much less time............. and it isn't easy to fix spines and other bits.......so the state of the hip isn't the only consideration............... that's without loss of general life due to pain and misery and lost opportunities...........
