Guest guest
Mick~ I am truly sorry you are leaving the group. Like Missy said, everyone is welcome to this group and everyone has different opinions. Your story encouraged many in the group and are trying this diet. I myself can not eat too many fruits. It has always upset my stomach, even before fms. I eat healthy, don't get me wrong, but taking fruit in moderation is a must for me. I love fresh fruit. Pears, apples, peaches, grapes, oranges, etc. I like almost all kinds of fruit. I am hoping that I'll be able to eat them on a regular basis, like everyday. I have told people what worked for me and others have shared. I hope you don't take this personally, but you sounded like a commercial and I know you didn't mean it to be. I personally liked reading your story and how your diet worked for you. I am hoping that it will work for others who want to try it. I wish you continued well health and feel free to e-mail me if you want someone to chat with. I am also on yahoo msgr. Take care. ~ ---------------------------------

Guest guest
Joy, Sorry that you are leaving the group but am glad that you are happy with the results of your operation. I think that the immediate results are the same for resurfacing and THR, that the pain is gone and it feels wonderful. For the swelling, keep your leg elevated as much as possible. If you can lie down so your leg is higher than your heart that should yeild the best results. Best of luck with your recovery, Fred Dr. Gross, C2K 1/21/04 > I've been a member of the group for 18 months now and have really > appreciated the advice and guidance given to myself and reading that > given to others. > > However I will shortly be leaving the group as I am now 5 days post > op from a BHR but unfortunately my hip was too far gone to resurface > and I have had to have a a THR. > > I thought I would have been really upset, however after the initial > tears in the recovery room I have put all my energy into getting > better. It's a good feeling to be pain free!. I too had a lot of swelling after the op- like you from waist to ankle. I am 3 weeks post op and mine has gone down dramatically. I was advised to elevate the leg whilst lying down. ( obviously not too high!). Also to apply ice. Take care and happy healing . Guest guest
Joy Stay with us and report from time to time - it would help others who are revised or have left it too long - there are still family doctors out there advising surgery to be left as long as you can bear the pain. Your advice to others would be invaluable. Guest guest
Rog I heard with interest on the UK news last night that changes were to be made to the NHS system recognising the need for a joined up approach between the GP and hospital where the surgery will take place in terms of waiting times and performance indicators. This is clearly an improvement, but for younger/active people like ourselves I believe the real issue is lack of diagnosis by GP's as happened with me as I did not present myself as a typical arthritic hip patient (ie older). The other problem I had was being told by a consultant at our local HNS trust (the whole trust does not offer resurfacing) to wait as long as I could for a THR and did not even mention resurfacing as an out of area option. By chance a newspaper article referred onto me by a friend about Angie Best lead to me finding a surgeon who could resurface me. The rest you all now know. Today I shall be writing to the Health Minister explaining my experience and highlighting where things went wrong for me and what could be done to make improvements for more active hip patients in the light of these proposed changes. Also, our local MP will be standing down at the next election and we are right in the middle of selecting a new candidate. The favourite is Ed Balls, Chief Adviser to Gordon Brown and husband of Yvette , Junior Health Minister. He is due to visit me in the next few days as I have a vote in the selection process. I am going to raise this as with him in the light of the proposed changes to the NHS and just maybe he will feedback to someone who can change things at Government level. Thank you everyone for all your kind wishes and support over the last few days. Guest guest
Joy, I hope I wasn't too abrupt in my request that you stay with us - I hope you will. There are others on this site with THR's. I remember well the article about Angie Best and tried to get her to post on this site to no avail - The article was in the Daily Mail. The only way to get the message across is to preach to people the importance of early treatment - I left it late and was borderline with my left hip but as it happened had 2 BHR's. Forgive me stating this, although I admire your stance of taking it up with politicians, I feel the only way they'll take notice is when the number of people shouting is high enough or they are getting bad publicity - another reason for your continued presence on this site - united we stand, divided we fall.
