Guest guest
Checking in. Still fighting the ROM loss, and I feel like my leg is about 50% strong. I've been on a cane since wednesday, and I've been doing more solo flights within the house without the cane. The joint feels fine, it's just the meat around it that won't behave. I am starting to feel the " pace " of my recovery, slower than my macho ego had anticipated, but progress none the less. (Is nonetheless supposed to be one word?) I'm driving fine. Been swimming 1/2 mile or so every other day, & I do easy " bicycle " kicks in the corner of the pool, but my operated side doesn't want to come up very high. I could go to work now, but I'm getting used to lounging around and reading...so I think I'll milk it for another week or two. I really want to mow my own lawn. And I need to deal with the Aphids on my plum tree. And all my bulbs are laying down their leaves now, and I need to clean up and mulch..... Any input on ROM chronology appreciated. Guest guest
Hi I think you are being somewhat optimistic to expect your ROM to be instantly back there - and to me 3 weeks is instant.............. It is now that you will begin to appreciate how much worse it could have become if you had waited for another 6 months - 1 year.....that ROM would have only been worse and harder to get better............. for those muscles and extras all seem to just get shorter and shorter dealing with grimpy hips and poor gait...........and that seems to have a lot to do with how easy ROM is to get back......... It is my biggest challenge.......i.e. seems harder to achieve than simple muscle strength......... The only other thing I can suggest is in another couple of weeks when that hip capsule is pretty well healed, and don't forget it takes around 6 weeks to do that, you can take a noodle to the pool and start stretching the whole leg as well as swimming....... I have fun hooking it under my foot and just playing through the water with it as it will support the leg and one can twist it about a little pushing on the edges of its movement - just be careful at the start not to push into dislocation possible positions..........which is where the totally healed capsule becomes important..........
