The following was over about a 31 month period:

I started at 10mg Oxycontin BID

6th month -Increased to 20mg Oxy AM and 10mgOxy PM

10th month ~ Increased to 20mg BID

Added 250mg Codeine for breakthrough

14th month ~ Modified doses to 20mg AM + 10mg mid day and 10mg PM (to avoid

taking codeine for breakthrough.

18th month~ Increased to 20mg BID with 10mg Roxicododone PRN for

breakthrough (once daily)

22th month~ Increased to 20mg AM and 40mg PM with 10mg Roxi PRN (once daily)

27th month~ Increased to 40mg BID with 10mg Roxi PRN breakthrough (one to 3

times daily)

30th month~ Switched to MScontin equivalent to 80mg Oxy BID as breakthrough

was too often BUT I had allergic reaction.

DC MScontin

31th month~ Back on Oxycontin but now on a sliding scale:

I can take from 20-80mg BID depending on pain level.

Increased Roxicodone to 15mg PRN breakthrough.

Is that what you wanted Jill?

Subject: Pain Management Help

Can all of you who would have rated their pain levels at a 9 or greater

before embarking on a pain management regimen please write me and share with

me how your pain was managed (successes and failures welcome) - doses of

meds that works and that which didn't. A member not on the list has a son

who is at a 10 for pain is on 10 mg or oxycontin and getting no relief (no

kidding!).

The mom would like to hear from you!

Re: Pain Management Help

Hi Jill,

How old is the son trying to deal with such I pain? My heart goes out to

both mother and child because we have been there. Dr. Lebvfre referred the

boys to pain clinic at HSC and we finally got some help. We also work with

physio, ot, thrapeutic touch, counselling etc.

She does Lana, she's rather new to it though and has already had several bad

viruses, so she's cautious. I may have her join us here though for the

support.

I asked, Jill, because when I sent her the card, I suggested she may

want to look at the Mayo website

(http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester/whychoose.html)? I don't know

if that would be an option, taking Troy there, but they work on

things and pound away until the problem is solved, and I think with

someone like Troy, they would place him in the hospital and try

different things until an answer is found. It's just a thought, it

may not be an option, or they may have tried something on that order

already. Have they tried any option methods of pain relief like

hypnosis or accupuncture? Has she found any articles on pain relief

and would she want any??

Jill, what about a book? Here's an interesting website:

http://www.bedsidepainmanager.com/

Also, you may want to have her check out these websites:

Hope this helps a little - I feel so bad for all of them!

Lana,

I agree and did suggest this to her as well, I told her of my experiences

with the Mayo, so hopefully she'll try to get some thing organized for her

son. She's very motivated, as any mother would be, so I hope that things

start going upward for them now!

Oh GOOD, Jill, I was hoping I wasn't leading her astray or anything,

it's just that we had such good luck there, and I would go in a

heartbeat for myself, should I ever need to! I'm glad, though, that

you substantiated my viewpoint!

Oh O completely agree with you, when I went it was a comprehensive visit for

me and all I was supposed to see was one surgeon. I ended up with a full

day, seeing many different people, it was fantastic for me. Her son needs a

comprehensive approach and this might be the place for him, I agree.
