Guest guest
I have no problem with setting decent standards as a 'floor' that everyone must attain to practice in a given position. I've made several suggestions over the years to this end, and mostly got told that I was being unreasonably demanding. I was poking fun at my old comrade (and fellow refugee from Joisy) Lou Molino at his comment about EMS being 'too young to have a history' by pulling two items out of the historic discard pile. Pulmotors were first used around 1911, and the first Cadillac Fleetwood Hearses were used as ambulances starting a couple of decades later. ck In a message dated 10/19/10 18:36:31 Central Daylight Time, flightmedic1492@... writes: What's wrong with actually making a standard for our profession? Guest guest
not a bad idea, Rob... Only problem I ever had with the Caddy rigs was that at 6' 1 " , I was a tad big to do much besides hold the patient's hand, even with a 'popped top'....which did make the ride worse... ck In a message dated 10/19/10 18:43:02 Central Daylight Time, rob.davis@... writes: > then we should still be using Pulmotor resuscitators and hearse bodied > Caddy ambulances... Well, if job satisfaction counts for anything, I have to say that the Caddies were a Hell of a lot more fun than today's boxes! And the ride was a lot better for the patient too. Seeing as transportation is the only modality that we provide which is absolutely proven to improve outcomes, perhaps some focus should go back to that as a priority. Guest guest
tell that to the folks who's houses burned down while the local FD stood by and protected exposures...because the owners hadn't paid their FD service fee on time! Guest guest
not directly, but the outfit I worked for in Omaha was also the regional distributor for Batesville Caskets, and we had two hearsemobiles...one for long distance transports of stable patients (e.g., returns from the tertiary care centers in Omaha to small towns across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa), and one in full hearse livery that was used to pick up the most stable patients from the hospitals and take them to the funeral homes. In addition, during my time as an ME, my chief deputy was also the owner of the biggest local funeral home, and, IIRC, a partner in the local private ambulance company. He was an *interesting* chap to talk to....full of stories about the times when his hearses were the only vehicles around to transport the sick and injured. ck In a message dated 10/19/10 19:30:28 Central Daylight Time, lnmolino@... writes: Chuck did you ever work for a funeral based services?
