Guest guest
Hi, I am scheduled to get my left hip resurfaced in Birmingham shortly under Mr. McMinn (the guy who developed the modern procedure). I have no fear of the operation itself; my biggest reservation (which keeps threatening to persuade me to change my mind about undergoing the procedure - and given my personality I could still do that as I am wheeled into the operating theatre)is the danger posed by DVT. Have you any idea what the percentage fatality risk is? Guest guest
Tom, First let me apologize if I inadvertantly added to your angst. I should be more careful. I shared about my cousin because there was some discussion about Coumadin, the drug used to thin your blood after surgery. Dr. Mark can tell you stats, I'm sure. But my point is sharing was to try to emphasize the need to comply with your surgeons post-op protocol. My cousin didn't, and the outcome was horrible. If we do as were told our chances for success are far greater. Taking blood thinners and wearing our TEDS is a short term part of the whole equation. Yours is a good question, and one to which I would like to know an answer. DR. Mark.....paging Dr. Mark.........
