Guest guest
Hi all, Just arrived home so had to get on the website to let you all know how things have gone. Had my right BHR last wednesday - had the spinal anaesthetic, which was amazing - less traumatic than a trip to the dentist! Phoned my folks and work about 2 hours later - they were a bit stunned to hear from me so soon. Then followed several fainting and vomiting bouts ( the student nurse was a star for holding my hair out of the way while i threw up! I can't complain about my NHS treatment at all!).Discharged 3 days post-op to my friends house so i could qualify for an early discharge programme (I had my op out of my home area) - this consisted of daily physio and nurse visits to keep me on track. 7 days post-op they discharged me from the scheme and let me come home to beautiful Cumbria. I'm walking well on 2 sticks (one indoors, with my physio's permission). had my first shower this morning- bliss. THe whole experience has been so much easier than i expected it to be - being on the ward was the most traumatic bit - so noisy and hot. I'm glad to be back home now to get on with things at my own pace, and expect the next couple of months at least to be hard work - my muscles are sore already from the physio exercises I am religiously doing, but I'm getting better every day. I had a good upright chair to sit in at my friends, but am struggling to find anything comfortable at home. I hear a lot of you talking about your recliners - would it be a good investment for me to get one? Just want to say a big thankyou to everyone who answered my questions pre-op. Also want to stress what A positive experience i had of the English NHS (except the food which was worse than school dinners and had less nutritional value!). I was only on the waiting list for 5 months and then only had to stay in for 4 days. My care was very good and all the staff I had dealings with were supportive and reassuring - thanks YorK District Hospital. My Surgeon wasn't sure whether he would be able to do the resurf once he got in there, but I trusted he would give me the best chance - he did, and I got it! By the way taking your own CD to listen to during the op is a great idea - the theatre staff were laughing at my home-made compilation as i had gone for uplifiting rather than relaxing music. Maybe we should compile a list of the best tracks to have your resurfacing done to? All the best Jen (R BHR Jain)
