No bone on bone pain anymore, just the typical incision healing, swelling and muscle weakness which are all improving each day. > > I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this site for all of the information and encouragement to go through with this. Guest guest
Hi Greg and Edith, Greg, I'm glad everything went well, I think I must have missed you in Belgium, I left the Holiday Inn on Saturday 19th. Edith, guess I'm in a similar boat as you now. I'm 3 weeks post op after having 500ml heterotopic ossification removed from my siezed up hip and a BHR fitted for good luck. My hip is still very weak and I'm on two sticks but I'm managing to get out cycling as well as in the pool every day. Dr De Smet got my leg moving up to 90% ROM while I was in theatre and all the way back to a straight position for the first time in 10 months, as well as removing 4 of the 6 screws holding my acetabulum together!! He told me I might always have a limp but after my OS here in UK told me he could do nothing and would fuse my hip if I got AVN I think I made the right choice !! I'll be thinking about you as I try to get off these sticks, thanks for your support in the past. Guest guest
Hi Linton, I still shudder at the thought of anyone being landed with a fused hip.......... I think I would even opt for the lump of jello alternative to going back to that place.............. so you are well ahead there.......... Is the hip remaining at the 90% ROM now........... ??? My surgeon said he had mine at far more during the op but it is proving very difficult for me to get it to even 90........ My son told me that is because I actually have to grow the support systems in creating and lengthening muscles etc and all that takes time........... From what I am now gathering about muscles it seems as the joint seizes up the muscle fibres turn into something more like tendon fibres - i.e. pretty hard and not too flexible .... and it takes some time and consistant work pushing at them to jolly them into proper flexible being........... of course the older one is the harder even that is as well........... But how well one get them to some state of normal aliveness determines the amount of limp. So I am making it my challenge to have none.......... Do keep posting progress as I will be interested in how you go getting yours back to life.......... Edith LBHR Dr. L Walter Syd Aust 8/02 > > Edith, guess I'm in a similar boat as you now.
