Guest guest
Why? Most colonoscopies and endoscopies are already done with no tranquilizer and/orsedative or anesthesia. . . as they are usually painless.Love and good luck,n ..Wow, maybe that's our 'whitecoat fear' solution Sharon. Be seen by a PA rather than a dr! My lower back pain is still here as always but it's probably lesions on my spine. And no, I won't go for an MRI. I didn't realize you weren't getting regular mammos so now I'll start nagging you. I have never felt any pain with them. But a colonoscopy would scare the bejeezus out of me! It's never been suggested that I have one but that's par for the course with drs up here. You'll do fine ... hugs, Cait doctor appt today I was so bummed out when I got there because they said my doc wasn't there! Turns out she was air flighted to Phoenix for emergency back surgery yesterday. They said they brought in a PA from sdale to see Dr. J's patients for the next few months. I almost walked out but I decided to stay. I was seen first my a medical student from the U.of A. med school. She was great and seemed excited to get to do a neuro exam:) lol The PA wants me to have a chest xray because of my chronic cough. She also wants to have xrays on my lower back due to the pain I'm having. She feels stumped by the pain and soreness I described because her exam showed no reason for it that she could identify. She also will refer me for a mammogram. And the biggie for me is she wants me to have a colonscopy! I have refused to have one before because I'm a huge wimp. But I guess I will follow through this time. The lower back pain is getting pretty bad for me. Something is wrong. I have made a habit of refusing medical tests over the years. Right or wrong --that's the way I am. I hope it wasn't a mistake to refuse all these years, you know? Before my appointment I went to Walmart for my monthly shopping trip. I had my hair cut at the salon when I first got there so now I feel human again. lol hugs to each SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
I've never NOT had sedation for either procedure, and now I'm getting upper endoscopies every year because of the damage my GERD has caused. Maybe it's a regional thing, although there is one doctor at here that won't use sedation, she's new to the area, though. Most people expect it. Tina Why? Guest guest
That seems so bizarre. Things must be done totally different in California. I don't know of anyone who has had either of those tests without some sedative. The doctors my dil works for always uses anesthesia. My mother had to have endoscopies fairly often due to her esophageal varices (from liver disease) and she was always sedated. I would wait outside the procedure room/OR and I could hear her distress (almost screaming) --and she was under anesthesia at the time. It was very hard as a caregiving daughter to sit there and hear that. After it was done and she was awake she would be smiling. If I said "how was it?" She would laugh and say it was a piece of cake. Ha! I knew better because I could hear her!hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
..Yikes, no sedation here unless you've got a tranquilizer. Tina, I can really sympathize with you having GERD. I never knew what it felt like before taking that stupid Fossavance. I stopped it and he gave me a pill that eased the symptoms but then he wanted me to try it again. No way and I'm glad seeing the relation to cancer of the esophagus ... hugs, Cait Re: colonoscopy, sedation, lack of same I've never NOT had sedation for either procedure, and now I'm getting upper endoscopies every year because of the damage my GERD has caused. Guest guest
Yeah, I've alread started with Barrett's Esophagus - they found it in my scope last year and did a biopsy. So it means absolutely no NSAID's, prescription prilosec twice a day, etc. I'm likely not going to be getting away from getting yearly scopes. Guest guest
I have survived Barrett's Esophagitis--no cancer--do what you have to do,Tina!Love,nSubject: Re: colonoscopy, sedation, lack of sameTo: MSersLife Date: Thursday, July 21, 2011, 10:13 PM Yeah, I've alread started with Barrett's Esophagus - they found it in my scope last year and did a biopsy. Guest guest
NO ONES touching my tuckuss without me being out!! I couldn’t even imagine that? All of Steve’s family has had versed, and came thru it fine. My aunt had one done and she felt it all, and it was a nightmare for her. I should have one done but I am afraid because of how poorly I respond to anesthesia. I don’t want to feel anything, but I don’t want to not wake up either! Sharon your mothers experience must have been awful for you. Versed makes you not remember what happens, and for some reason that sounds so barbaric. Just put me under. Guest guest
Yes, my experience with my mother was awful. I think that's why I am so resistant to have the tests the docs order.hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
That's one thing that I've always been grateful for. Other than the wake up and hallucinate portion of my first one, for my second one, and for both of my endoscopies, they would get me in position (or put the thing in my mouth for the endoscope) and that's all I knew before I woke up. They even gave me a sandwich before I left. Tina Yes, my experience with my mother was awful.
