Guest guest
Hiya Phil Just realised that I've been posting about exactly the same issue as you have, so I've included my earlier post below. WHat are you doing about this? Where are you due to get yours done? Are you discussing your worries with you surgeon or GP? I just refuse to believe that there's not something that can be done if we're on the verge of deterioating beyond a resuf. Morag Here's my earlier post Hi Folks > > I'm in a lot of pain - I can't walk far at all, I limp very very > heavily, and my bones grind and pop when I try to move anywhere. Guest guest
I was wondering about what you said about pins in femur: > > Re: Running out of ammo > > I'm in EXACTLY the same situation! > > I'm 22 and came to the conclusion that resurfacing was by far > the > > better option for me at this point in my life. - Aside from > anything > > else to have a THR I'd have to get the pins out of my femur, > wait a > > couple of years at least for my bones to heal, then have a THR. I have two pins in my femur attaching the head back on. Do pins have to be removed in order to resurf?? I hope you dont mind me asking but do you need the op for athritis since an accident. I haven't seen any postings here from people who like me need surgery due to a break to the hip not that it really matters. Zoe
Guest guest
Hi Everyone Zoe if your interested I have had my BHR because my hips broke when I was in my early teens, I suffered slipped ephysis's in both my hips 2 ears apart, that's when the ball of the hip breaks away from the femur. It can happen as the bones don't grow at an equal rate and if you're a bit heavy (I was only slightly overweight) they can't cope. Mine where pinned for 12-18 months with 3 " moors " pins each side. Good luck Morag, I'm sure the pins would be removed if you have a BHR as they remove the ball of the joint. Guest guest
Hiya My doc says I don't need my pins taken out as they are far enough down my thigh to have a resurfacing done (is that what a BHR is?) but I'd definately need them out to have a replacement. Is this what you meant? Cheers Morag > Hi Everyone > Zoe if your interested I have had my BHR because my hips broke when I > was in my early teens, I suffered slipped ephysis's in both my hips 2 > ears apart, that's when the ball of the hip breaks away from the femur. > It can happen as the bones don't grow at an equal rate and if you're a > bit heavy (I was only slightly overweight) they can't cope. > Mine where pinned for 12-18 months with 3 " moors " pins each side. > Good luck Morag, I'm sure the pins would be removed if you have a BHR as > they remove the ball of the joint. > Cheers > > 20/08/1972 > LBHR 04/09/01 Kent UK > > Re: Morag > > I was wondering about what you said about pins in femur: > > > > > Re: Running out of ammo > > > I'm in EXACTLY the same situation! > > > I'm 22 and came to the conclusion that resurfacing was by far > > the > > > better option for me at this point in my life. - Aside from > > anything > > > else to have a THR I'd have to get the pins out of my femur, > > wait a > > > couple of years at least for my bones to heal, then have a > THR. > > I have two pins in my femur attaching the head back on. Guest guest
Hi Morag My pins only held the very top of the femur together, if u imagine the ball at the top came apart and split in the middle. Yours are obviously are a lot further down the femur, the BHR only takes away the top of the femur. If you have a look at the BHR home page: http://www.midmedtec.co.uk/index.htm u can c a BHR in place, if you look at a THR u can c how much more femur is taken away.........like loads! Sorry I haven't got a picture; if u look in the photos section of the group I think there maybe an x-ray of someone who has 1 BHR and 1 THR, the difference is quite amazing, unfortunately I'm going to have a THR in a month as my BHR has become infected. Good luck with it all, don't hesitate to email me if u need any help 20/08/1972 LBHR 04/09/01 Re: Morag > > I was wondering about what you said about pins in femur: > > > > > Re: Running out of ammo > > > I'm in EXACTLY the same situation! Guest guest
Hi Thanks very much for the info! I'm really sorry to hear about your hip...did your BHR last you long? DOn't mean to pry...you can tell me to get lost if you want! I hust get the impression that I'm in for a lifetime of this stuff so I've been trying to learn as much about it as possible. I've been to BHR site before as it's Dr Treacy who's doing my hip but I'm away to have another peek and to look at the photos. Cheers Morag So > > Hi Everyone > > Zoe if your interested I have had my BHR because my hips broke > when I > > was in my early teens, I suffered slipped ephysis's in both my > hips 2 > > ears apart, that's when the ball of the hip breaks away from the > femur. > > It can happen as the bones don't grow at an equal rate and if > you're a > > bit heavy (I was only slightly overweight) they can't cope. > > Mine where pinned for 12-18 months with 3 " moors " pins each side. > > Good luck Morag, I'm sure the pins would be removed if you have a > BHR as > > they remove the ball of the joint. > > Cheers > > > > 20/08/1972 > > LBHR 04/09/01 Kent UK > > > > Re: Morag > > > > I was wondering about what you said about pins in femur: > > > > > > > > Re: Running out of ammo > > > > I'm in EXACTLY the same situation! > > > > I'm 22 and came to the conclusion that resurfacing was by > far > > > the > > > > better option for me at this point in my life. - Aside from > > > anything > > > > else to have a THR I'd have to get the pins out of my femur, > > > wait a > > > > couple of years at least for my bones to heal, then have a > > THR. > > > > I have two pins in my femur attaching the head back on. Guest guest
Hi Morag My BHR hip was amazing for about 9 months until the infection, I had been restricted and suffered pain for quite awhile so it really was great. I had the BHR after lots of consideration hoping it would last 20 years +, I truly feel it would have lasted that long if it wasn't for the infection, hopefully the metal on metal THR will last a long time for me, when I need a replacement for my right hip I'll have a BHR with out a doubt. Talk to u soon 20/08/1972 LBHR 04/09/01 Kent UK
Guest guest
Hi Morag: I am from the U.S., & don't know anything about your insurance. My heart goes out to you, re: the pain & waiting anxiety. In the U.S., I was able to get in with Dr. Gross within 6 weeks & all I had to do was mail my x-rays. Haven't had the pleasure of fighting with my insurance yet, but I'm sure that will come. Guest guest
: Leave all the insurance paperwork to Dr. Gross' office staff. Do not attempt to contact them yourself no matter how curious you are. It sends too many red flags for them. Just leave it to the Doc's office, they really know how to handle insurance companies the best. Guest guest
Hi, You can telephone the Appointments Clerk at your local hospital to find out whether you are on the waiting list to be seen, and roughly how long that will take. I waited TWO YEARS in Wales just to be seen, it's then a further 2-3 years for surgery!! via the NHS. Once you have had your inital assessment visit, there is a time limit for surgery to take place, after this time, you can request your GP to send you to another hospital (even overseas) where there is a shorter waiting time. As for Faxes or e-mails for contact...hey-ho! I even offered my mobile phone No. and said I could get to the hospital within 20minutes if they had a cancellation etc., but was told they do not keep a contact list for cancellations! Only two weeks earlier I had been reading in the newspaper about how much cancelled appointments cost the NHS it was into 5 figures! Oh by the way, good luck! Sue Re: Running out of ammo I'm in EXACTLY the same situation! I'm 22 and came to the conclusion that resurfacing was by far the better option for me at this point in my life. - Aside from anything else to have a THR I'd have to get the pins out of my femur, wait a couple of years at least for my bones to heal, then have a THR. And at the moment I can't walk more than 100 metres! I'm tall and female and specialists treat me like I'm daft - My first doc - a complete THR fan before even discussing the idea of a resurfacing (which I'd never heard of before) was telling me that it's a ridiculous idea, is far too new, doesn't work in the long term...I could go on. AND friends who know nothing about either procedure have been erm...advising me...that I should definitley have a THR simply because resurfacings have only been on the market for a short period of time. I don't even bother arguing with them. I just tell them to go and do thier own research and come back to me and give me a valid arguement of why a THR is better. - None of them have been able to. I just wish I could get it dne soon. I'm getting it done on the NHS so I have to wait till November ( Morag x > > Hello fellow hipsters - > > > > As a newbie, I continue to have multiple questions. > > > > Finally, I get to the point where I am feeling confident in my > > decision to go with hip resurfacing v. a total hip replacement*, & > > now everyone around me is freaking out. > > > > I'm only 35.
