Dear Cheryl,

A late reply, as I've been away. I was put on a cancellation list, and

managed have my op within 6 weeks. However, if you agree to this, you

have to be able to go in at a moment's notice. I just warned everyone

at my work that this might happen, and when it did, there was no

problem. You do miss all the pre-admission bumpf, which you may want to

ask for post op. The other difficulty, however, with many NHS ops, is

that you still have to phone up the day before the operation to see if

the bed is still available. If there have been any emergencies or

unexpected delayed discharges, your op could still be postponed for lack

of a bed. This doesn't happen often, but one needs to be prepared for

it. Do ask if this could happen at your hospital. Early May does

pretty fast, so keep your fingers crossed.

Eleanor

nhs notice

can any of you out there who have had your op done on the nhs tell

me how much notice they give you for your pre admission/op . I only

ask because I have been promised a slot in early May by the

admissions officer after the consultant gave the go ahead for me to

go up the urgent list, and I still have not heard. Thanks Cheryl
