Guest guest
Hi All Thanks so much Cheryl -Lou ph and Eleanor Cheryl I'll look out for Lorraine, is she pretty?! I'll spot her if she is! Eleanor I did get some pain at night, however I never suffered swelling externally, my pain was worse if I sat or stood with weight off the operated leg, all of a sudden it would build to become excruciating, if I tried to put my foot down and apply weight I'd have to take tiny almost hopping steps slowly applying more weight, it was awful at times, however after 3 days on the antibiotic Flucloxacillin I could walk without the stick and indeed haven't used it all the time I'm taking the antibiotic. Hope this helps, I'm thinking good thoughts for u! Good luck Lbhr 04 09 01 Dob 20 08 1972 message for good luck and watch out for my friend Lorraine. thinking of you cherylx

Guest guest
Dear , Thanks for coming back. Your pain sounds much worse than mine. Amazing the effect the antibiotic has had. Another question---my OS has implied that an antibiotic might clear up the infection and I would then not need another op. Did the antibiotic not work permanently for you then? Why do you need the op? Eleanor message for good luck and watch out for my friend Lorraine. thinking of you cherylx
Guest guest
Hi Eleanor My surgeon was hoping the antibiotics could clear up the infection, it feels so much better now, however the femur has slipped out of the ball bit of the resurfacing, it sticks out the side looking well dodgy! The pain is still there but much reduced, I'm still on the antibiotics, if they find no sign of infection they can revise on Thursday with a m o m large head thr using the Birmingham pelvic cup. I hope they sort you out really quickly and the pain isn't too bad All the best message for good luck and watch out for my friend Lorraine. thinking of you cherylx

Guest guest
Dear , Thanks for this. I know you have written about it before, but it only becomes really meaningful when one might have to go through the same thing. I wonder what made the femur slip out of the ball bit of the resurfacing? Do they/you have any theories? Perhaps not until they get inside. Would the infection affect that? You sound so positive about it, and yet I can only imagine your mixed feelings about going through the operation again. Or, at least I know what mine or, and I am not even facing one for sure yet. I guess in the end, it might be like going into the op for the first time---the difficulties without it just manage to outweigh the negative experience of surgery itself. Except, of course, I don't know if you had a 'negative ' experience, as everyone is different, of course. And, of course, I would guess that like me, part of you may be feeling that 'it's not fair', and 'why me, anyway'? Another part of me seems quite philosophical about it, as I am getting over the initial shock. And I supposed relieved that they are at last finding out what is wrong. Well-have gone more than intended. Thursday is coming quickly. You may go in tomorrow? As you know, we will all be rooting for you. Thankyou so much sharing. Eleanor message for good luck and watch out for my friend Lorraine. thinking of you cherylx

Guest guest
HI Eleanor and I’m sure your physicians would have thought about that, but still, have all correlations between the pain you are experiencing and nerves affecting traumatised muscle and tendon groups been explored, investigated/tested and ruled out? The reason I am asking this is because I think that both patients and surgeons tend to assume that because there was an invasive technique performed it must be an infection that causes pain/problems. A good example of such thinking is the readiness to use preventive antibiotic treatment prior to invasive dental treatment. I largely steered clear of that debate but did discuss it with a few medical experts and the majority view was that the bacteria cultures that live in the mouth are predominantly not of the type that are present and effective in the joints. I am therefore minded to rule out nerve damage before opting for an infectious cause to post-operative pain/problems. If neural causes have been ruled out in your cases I hope and trust that the infections can be treated without major revisions. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Dan My femoral component has failed, the femur is slipping outwards from under it, we believe this is caused by the femur being damamged by infection, a revision is needed to a m o m large head thr, I'll no more on Thursday! Guest guest
Dear Dan, Thank you for your comments. I'm assuming that if my hip fluid test comes back with no infection showing, other hypotheses will be followed. My OS is very experienced. For a long time now, the nature of my pain has made me think infection, not nerves, but this is quite subjective.
