Guest guest
Alan, I went to Dr Mont because I liked what I'd heard about his technique where he separates muscle and also a smaller scar. His staff had helped me with my appeal and he'd helped me deal with a insurance company doctor (reviewer)also. I was a triathlete/marathoner when I was diagnosed with OA in 1995. I continued bicycling being it was non-weightbearing and I could do it without pain. I rode some centuries and the infamous Death Ride. I also went to a gym 3 days a week to lift weights. After surgery I started up cycling again but have to keep reminding myself that I was off for 3 months AND I had major surgery. Of course it wouldn't have taken 3 months to get back to cycling if it hadn't been for the major set-back of the pain that returned when i started partial weightbearing with one crutch. I'm sure I'd be much farther along with my training if it weren't for the continued pain. From what I've seen since I joined this group years ago, you should have no problem returning to handball post-op. If Des can kick someone in the head with no problem in his karate class, a little running around on a handball court should be no problem! Many people have returned to competitive tennis as well. The odds are with you. There's only the small percentage of us who continue to have problems, and it's a very small percentage.
