Guest guest
Hi Susie, Did you try the Corin site.............??? And as is often suggested here there seems to be some surgeons you can just email too who will answer that question........ Dr De Smet being one........... even if you then seek a surgeon closer to home......... Edith > It's time for me to seach once again for anyone who may have this > diagnosis of mine. Guest guest
Hi Susie, I didn't have this diagnosis before resurfacing, but I'm sure that if you sent a recent x-ray of your hip(s) to any of the resurfacing surgeons that they could tell you if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure. Dr. De Smet (Belgium) has successfully resurfaced difficult patients that had been refused by US surgeons. (See my earlier postings from today about the Good Doctor!) Dr. Gross and Dr. Mont also have a lot of fans on this site. I've talked with and corresponded with Lee Webb (Dr. Gross's surgical nurse), and know that he, too, has done some difficult resurfacings, and that their office codes this surgery as a THR. They have a very good track record for getting insurance approval. I seem to remember someone else posting about Protrusio Acetabulum earlier this year. Have you checked the archives, looking for a thread about this topic? It's quite possible that someone who posted several months ago is no longer checking this site regularly. You might have to contact him/her directly. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Susie, I've been a silent reader on this wonderful site for sometime. I read your post and did not immediately realise it's me you could be talking to. As I live in Germany my diagnosis has a different name but does include 'protusio'. I did some research and I guess I have the same problems you do. Anyway, to cut a long story short I'm having my right hip resurfaced next week (Tuesday). My OS does not see any problems. When I went to consult him about the possibilities in my case he did not hesitate to suggest resurfacing. He seems to think it's the only viable solution. I hope he keeps to that opinion when he opens me up... All going well (which I'm convinced it will) I'll be having the left side done towards the end of the year. I'll be reading here until Friday. Then I'll be gone for a while. I'll be in the hospital for approx. 2 weeks and then go straight on to a rehab clinic afterwards. I will be there 3 or 4 weeks. That's the way they do things here in Germany. This is my first post here. I hope I got it right. I'd like to thank all of you here. You have helped to convince me I'm doing the right thing.
