Guest guest Posted May 3, 2011 Report Share Posted May 3, 2011 JOB SUMMARY:  Receives telephone calls, evaluates the nature and schedule, prioritizes the call, and enters the call into CAD. Maintains a working relationship with the facilities as a Patient Care Advocate, working to reduce dry runs and unpaid calls. Work is performed under direction.  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Questions caller and solicits information concerning the nature of the transport and elicits billing information.  Receives and routes non-emergency telephone calls, schedules transport appropriately.  Enters complete and accurate information into the computer-aided dispatch system.  Receives requests from field units for additional information, locates, and relays information to field units. May serve as a backup for field crews for times and information.  May maintain and retrieve information from computer file.  Notifies other concerned personnel/agencies of the emergency situation. Utilizes the EMSYSTEM database for information and disseminates it.  May operate specialized computer communications equipment.  Performs other duties as required.  MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED:  Multi-Frequency Two-Way Radio                                     Â\             Computer Terminal Specialized Computer Communication Equipment                    Two-Way, Multi-Frequency Transceiver       CAD System                                     \                                         \            Computer and Peripheral Equipment Playback Machine                                    Â\                                        Â\ Fax Machine Paging System  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Education and Experience:  High school diploma or equivalent.  One year of experience in an emergency facility working either as a dispatcher or in a support role to a dispatcher.  Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.   Licenses and Certifications: Not mandatory, but may require the possession of or the ability to obtain certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge of:  Geographic layout of the cities and counties and the facilities that we serve.  Major streets, highways, roads, landmarks, subdivisions, apartment complexes, shopping malls, etc.  Terminology, procedures, and techniques of a two-way, multi-frequency transceiver.  Operations, procedures, and standard policies of an emergency communications facility.  Operation of a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and specialized computer communication equipment.  Basic emergency medical or emergency management operations and procedures.  Skills in:  Use of the CAD system.  Interacting with people during stressful, emotional situations.  Speaking clearly.  Using common sense and good judgment.  Keyboarding.  Mental & Physical Abilities:  Use of the CAD system.  Speak clearly and communicate effectively.  Listen well and retain important information.  Maintain composure in emergency and stressful situations.  Make decisions within broad guidelines.  Perform multiple tasks simultaneously.  Perform duties under highly emotional/stressful conditions.  While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is required to sit for sustained periods, use hand to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear.  Working Conditions:  The incumbent’s working conditions are typically moderately quiet, but may occasionally be loud during periods of peak activity.
