Hi Mike and other " hippies in a hurry " ,

If you want to go back to work as soon as possible, I suggest you

hold off on the jogging for another six weeks. From what I've read and

been told, the hip capsule usually takes at least three months to

heal, and high impact stuff like jogging is more likely to hurt than

help until then.

Ditto with the cane. If you find you are still limping

occasionally, using the cane for longer walks will help you

concentrate on retraining those former muscle " bad habits " .

I remember how long the first six weeks seemed, and how long the

three months until I was permitted to return to my (non-impact)

aerobics seemed, but compared to the rest of one's life, those are

short-term restrictions. Especially when you think of how restricted

many of us were BEFORE the operation, at least during the first weeks

post-op we're seeing improvements every week, and can have hope for

the future. If you're feeling desperate for a lot of physical

activity, try swimming instead of running...

Everyone's glad you're doing so well. Don't risk all the money and

medical expertise that's been invested in you by being in too much of

a hurry to do heavy duty stuff. A bit more patience will serve you

better in the long run.

With all the complaints about difficulty in getting resurfacing,

it's incumbent on us " pioneers " to treat our implants with respect and

try to add to the positive long-term statistics. The more failures or

complications that may occur from doing too much too soon, the harder

it will be to convince the old-school surgeons that resurfacing is not

only a viable alternative, but BETTER for many patients.

Congratulations on your excellent progress so far.

All the best in your endeavours to regain fittness......... While it seems

n,

Thanks for the heads up. I will not run for now, really don't mind

that anyway. I will just walk and hike give myself more time. My PT

says the same thing (wow boy slow down:) she wants me to wait till

12 weeks to go back to work and I was thinking more like 10.5 weeks.

I am doing a lot more in the pool, but hard when you can't do flip

turns because of the 90 degree thing. I lift about 3/4 days aweek

and am using an indoor spin bike, but am thinking about moving to my

mtn. bike more upright for now, gets boring indoors.

Thanks for the advice and will watch myself more carefully.
