Guest guest
Caro, >Question 1: This one page says he is scheduled for lab examination. >Sedimentation Rate and Hemogram w/Diff is printed. printed. That was 5/23/01. What are >those tests for? The sedimentation rate (sed rate) measures how quickly red blood cells (erythrocytes) settle in a test tube. The more red cells that fall to the bottom of a special test tube in one hour, the higher the sed rate. When inflammation is present in the body, certain proteins cause red blood cells to stick together and fall more quickly than normal to the bottom of the tube. These proteins are produced by the liver and the immune system under many abnormal conditions, such as an infection, an autoimmune disease, and cancer. There are many possible causes of an elevated sedimentation rate. For this reason, a sed rate is done with other tests to confirm a diagnosis. Once a diagnosis has been made, a sed rate can be done to help monitor the course of the disease or the effectiveness of treatment. Hemogram with differential is also known as a complete blood count. This test evaluates the quantity and health of the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. It screens for anemia, leukemia, polycythemia and other disorders which may effect the cells in the blood. >Question 2: The next appointment talks about the next visit being 2/26/01 and >has 14 lab tests listed. I see basic lab work stuff plus something called >Alpha Fetoprotein Tumor marker on the list. Then at the bottom of the page they >inked in IC4 lab. For all I know that is a name of the lab :-O. >The hand written notes say 1C4 lab or IC4 lab. Does this mean anything to you >medical experts :-D. I need to determine when someone first noticed his lung >problems ... or not. Alpha Fetoprotein tuomor marker test is used to screen for and monitor therapy for certain cancers of the liver, testes, or ovaries If Bill's doctor suspected that he have certain cancers of the liver or testes or if he had previously been treated for one of these cancers, or are under treatment for them, or if he have chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis the test would have been ordered. The IC4 lab sounds like a clinic lab of some sort. >Question 3: I also see paper work about him doing exercises for >cervical/scapular PEP PADS. He was told to do exercises 10 times. I wonder is that was for >his back pain. Cervical and shoulder is neck and shoulder.
