Guest guest
I am not a program director. But I do have an idea or two on this subject. 1. Low pay and not a bright future 2. Most people who get into EMS work in the privet sector where there is not much glamor and you do get unhappy quick ( see low pay ) and you go into nursing. 3. No retirement unless you are working for a 911 service or a very large privet. 4. When Rescue 911 was on there was a surge in people comming into EMS because it was shown in a heroic light. Other then and Roy there has not been a quality tv show about EMS ( I mean series not Rescue 911 ) if we are shown to be clowns then who wants to be us. 5. Just some thoughts on a SUnday morning. > > On Friday, July 1, 2011 13:33, " McGee " summedic@... > > said: > > > Considering the rate of decline in potential EMS students, > especially after this > > new Dennis Leary series, it shouldn't be too long from now. > > Having been out of the game for awhile, I was not aware of this trend. > Is there really a significant drop in the number of people pursuing > EMT training these days? Guest guest
LV, I may be confused. Are you saying there is or is not a drop in EMT enrolment numbers? Guest guest
ok let me respeak myself if you would. I do not know if there is a drop. that post was a possible list of reasons for a decline if any in the number of new students. But I can understand why you did ask the questions. If there is a decline in If there is a decline in students. To be honest I am not all that sure if that is a bad thing. Here in the Houston area there are several EMS factories. Now outside Houston things are different I am sure, though I confess I did not knoweldge of that. Guest guest
Wait you mean things are different from place to place? Not everything revolves around Rob and his universe? Can't be true. Louis N. My universe has been pretty well limited to my wheelchair since leaving Iraq three years ago, so I don't enjoy quite the same unlimited point of view as you do. If I thought things were universally standard, I wouldn't be spending time asking questions here. Thanks for your obvious concern. Guest guest
Rob I'm pretty close to joining you on the wheelchair front so we are eye to eye on that. On your military service I am a huge believer in saying thank you for that to every man and woman who have done that regardless of where and when they did it so for that I thank you. As for our differences on EMS issues I doubt either of us is going to ever see eye to eye. Louis N. Molino, Sr. CET FF/NREMT/FSI/EMSI Training Program Manager Fire & Safety Specialists, Inc. Guest guest
While I disagree with Rob frequently and often vehemently, I agree with him a lot more. And that was a petty jab at him coming from you, Lou. > > > On Monday, July 4, 2011 07:50, " Louis N. Guest guest
you know as well as any that in the EMS world pots and kettles call out each other regularly. Such is life in the real world.
