Guest guest
Pipe cleaners to flimsy? How about twisting 3 together to make them stronger? You could glue colored tissue paper in the middle of the wrapped pipe cleaners/ I am thinking . Shape the pipe cleaners to the wing shape (try to make 3 large tear drop shapes) lay these shapes flat and then glue tissue paper on each side of the tear drop. When that is all dry glue (or use pipe cleaner to attach) the three tear drops with pointy ends together. You will need 2 sets of these three for each butterfly. Then poke hole in the sides of the bottle and stick the three pointy ends in the hole. Think that will work? Need Craft Help Well, I volunteered for crafts at a local vacation bible camp and although I have the rest of the crafts done, one has left me stumped. I have to create a butterfly out of 500 ml water bottles (yes, they are empty), and am stumped on the wings. I need something that I can affix to the sides of the bottles somehow. I was thinking of using pipecleaners and cover them with something to make the wings, but this is not working out well. Have glue gun, will create - but apparently, not today! Any suggestions? Guest guest
Hi Jill, Gosh this takes me back to my youth club days, I think I still have sticky tape under my fingers nails!! ;-) As for the butterfly wings, if pipe cleaners are too flimsy how about an old wire coat hangar? It might be a bit more stable and can still be moulded into the correct shape then covered with crepe paper etc. Just a thought, hope it helps :-) Love and hugs....Jo xxx
Guest guest
Hi Jill, I just tried something that might work. I took a regular page of construction paper and start foldinging it like a paper fan with the folds going lengthwise. With the folds compressed fold the paper in half lengthwise. Allow the fan to open. It should look like 2 little fans joined at the base. Glue the inside edges together to make one fan. Use pipe cleaners or the glue gun to attatch. Good luck! Jen P.S. If it would help I can take pictures and send them separately.

Guest guest
Hi Jill A wire that would likely be " in-between " the flimsy(ness) of pipe cleaner and yet not as heavy or difficult to use as coat hangers...would be floral wire ...which comes in a few different gauges, (and are nice to use...(the thicker/firmer is used for the 'base' when making the handle part of bridal bouquets and lighter one can be used for more delicate additions...also there is coloured floral tape...not highly 'sticky' but really lightweight and easy to 'cover' the wire (wings) with ...(took a commercail floral arranging course about a hundred years ago Also for the wings themselves...if you want something a little 'brighter' colour wise you could try buying several different colours of the 'cellophane' which likely comes in sheets...and glue gun them on...? I would bet that you can get all of these items at a s craft shop...and none of them should be very expensive...they usually have a person who can be helpful with queries about the items and how to use them (especially in their floral department...I would think) hope this helps give you some ideas...
