Guest guest Posted August 29, 2004 Report Share Posted August 29, 2004 The University of Arizona Pain Institute The University of Arizona Pain Institute was founded in 1996 by members of the Departments of Anesthesiology and Pharmacology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine with the goal of improving the treatment of pain through research, education, and clinical care. An important focus of the Institute is translational research which aims to design clinical studies based upon concepts identified in the laboratory. Research: The University of Arizona Pain Institute is committed to supporting quality research related to pain biology and pain management. The Institute strives to bring together scientists and physicians of diverse backgrounds to provide multi-disciplinary approaches which will bridge the gaps between preclinical studies, clinical trials, and incorporation of new advances into clinical practice. Members of the Institute have at their disposal: three full-time, experienced research nurses, an Investigational Pharmacy Drug Service, an Analytical Core Laboratory (GC, mass spectrometry, HPLC), capability for Phase I-IV studies, a busy, multi-disciplinary Pain Management Clinic treating acute, chronic, and cancer pain. Education: The University of Arizona Pain Institute is committed to the education of physicians and other health professionals in the study and treatment of pain, as well as medical students, residents, clinical fellows, scientists, and the public in the causes, prevention, diagnosis and management of pain. Guest speakers from around the world visit the Institute to present their exciting new discoveries. Members of the University of Arizona Pain Institute are nationally and internationally recognized physicians and scientists with expertise in pain biology and pain treatment who are members of the faculty at the College of Medicine, The University of Arizona.
