The University of Arizona Pain Institute

The University of Arizona Pain Institute was founded in 1996 by members of

the Departments of Anesthesiology and Pharmacology at the University of

Arizona College of Medicine with the goal of improving the treatment of pain

through research, education, and clinical care. An important focus of the

Institute is translational research which aims to design clinical studies

based upon concepts identified in the laboratory.

Research: The University of Arizona Pain Institute is committed to

supporting quality research related to pain biology and pain management. The

Institute strives to bring together scientists and physicians of diverse

backgrounds to provide multi-disciplinary approaches which will bridge the

gaps between preclinical studies, clinical trials, and incorporation of new

advances into clinical practice.

Members of the Institute have at their disposal:

three full-time, experienced research nurses,

an Investigational Pharmacy Drug Service,

an Analytical Core Laboratory (GC, mass spectrometry, HPLC),

capability for Phase I-IV studies,

a busy, multi-disciplinary Pain Management Clinic treating acute, chronic,

and cancer pain.

Education: The University of Arizona Pain Institute is committed to the

education of physicians and other health professionals in the study and

treatment of pain, as well as medical students, residents, clinical fellows,

scientists, and the public in the causes, prevention, diagnosis and

management of pain. Guest speakers from around the world visit the Institute

to present their exciting new discoveries.

Members of the University of Arizona Pain Institute are nationally and
