I was wondering...folk on this site talk about their recliners (what

is a recliner anyway?) and crutches, canes, grabbers, toilet seats

etc. etc. Where did you guys get them from? Did you buy them or do

you borrow them from the hospital? If you have to buy it what do I

need? I'm having my resurf done on my right hip only

privately in birmingam by Mr Treacy.

I arrived in Birmingham for my first resurf with Mr. Treacy in October, 2001

without having even thought about these questions. As a matter of fact I

didn't even know about most of these issues other than I'd need to use canes or

something to hold onto when I walked. Nor did I know about this group. The point

is whatever you need to do can be decided at the last minute without any

detriment to you, or you can plan it - depends on how you handle your stress.

I found answers to all these questions from the physical therapists in the

hospital, and you can buy all this stuff from the hospital at quite reasonable

prices.

Also, perhaps a daft question, where will my scar(s) be and what

will it (they) look like?...Not that I'm bothered, it's just that my

right hip is already covered in scars from surgery performed 23

years ago (I actually quite like them) and I'm wondering what my

hip will look like post resurf... I'm hopefully going on holiday in

July. Would a bikini be out of the question? What about swimming?

You'll probably have a biggish scar (20-25 cm) beginning in the middle of

your rump near the top and then running diagonally down to the top of the side

of

your thigh. If you wear a bikini you'll be showing plenty of scar, and it

sounds like you don't mind that so go for it. My wife says I'm too fat to wear a

Speedo otherwise I would. But I tell myself she's just teasing.

Mr. Treacy will advise you when it's safe to go into the water, but from my

experience, it sounds like you'll be fine.
