Hi Cheryl

I can only reply by quoting my experience – by no means a rule or a standard:

1. Second day

2. Second day

3. Second day I put on long-sleeved trousers so, I suppose, I could have worn

pyjamas (which I don’t posses)

4. Seven days – however, mine is an automatic with UK steering (on the right)

and I had my left hip resurfaced, so I did not have to use my left leg to drive

5. One week for the operated, but the surface was a Tempur one (I don’t think

I could have rested on the operated side on a normal mattress so early); 3 hours

after the op on the non-operated side (I asked my OS if I could turn, as the

small of my back was extremely uncomfortable, and he said that was OK, however,

be ready for the nurses to go in apoplexy when they see you turn)

6. No catheter – I weed 4 times the first night (and each time I sat up on the

bed as I could not do it in the ‘goose’); by the way, I had bowel movement

on day 2

7. I went a day before so that they could do once more the pre-op tests (blood

pressure, heart beat, etc.) and to ensure I fasted for 8 hours before the op,

however, my OS was ready to do the op on the day of my arrival if I could not

manage to get there the night before (I live in London and my op was in Rugby)

8. There was no pre-admission clinic. I had however a pre-op assessment 2-4

weeks before the op when I had all the final checks done once again (including

x-rays, blood & urine tests etc.)

9. No shaving other than the place where the incision will be made (however, my

bum is not hairy)

Don’t worry, be happy…. As the old reggae song goes. By the way, I’m not

blond nor am I a female, but I live in Essex (I know this will be lost on our US

friends).

Good luck, Cheryl. You’ll see – everything will be all right and come

September you will be ecstatic, I’m sure.

Regards

Dan
