Guest guest
(The following case scenario is based upon a series of calls, and is used for this purpose with the expressed consent of the patient.) You are dispatched for a 58 y/o female, AMS. You arrive on scene at the local Wal-Mart Garden Center, where one of their workers is sitting on the floor, leaning on a coworker's leg. She is very, very thin, her skin is hot and dry, her speech is slurred, she has very mild tremor in her hands, and she says that all of a sudden, she couldn't see. She's very alarmed and distressed at this sudden loss of sight, and so is a little combative and disoriented. So, you ask her coworkers for information. They know she's on a lot of medications, but they don't know why. At this point, her manager has obtained her purse. You find the contents to be: - Trash - An empty Pink Floyd CD case - Cash - A Driver's License - A medical alert card which simply states that she's allergic to sulfa drugs and morphine. - A bottle of Lamortigine - A bottle of Lithium - An array of OTC GI meds, to include but not limited to: Pepto Bismol, Immodium, Tums, Zantac - A bottle of Simvastatin - A bottle of N-Acetylcysteine - An Albuterol MDI So, what do you want to do? What do you want to know? And, of course, what's happening to her, and why? You have four hints. Use them wisely. Let the wild rumpus begin!
