Guest guest
What did garlic work on? I know I'm jumping in here, but I'm curious. We use a lot of garlic at our house, just on taste principles. My husband and I are rather fond of it, and my daughter seems to like it as well, since she won't eat anyone's mashed potatoes but mine. (Except Popeyes'...but that's because she likes their gravy a whole lot.) We know it's good for the heart, but I didn't know what else it might be useful for, other than tasting really good. Shanna mom of Triana, age 2 wcf Hi what are you studying at uni? Good luck, it is hard to juggle it all, in this household the house work is the thing that gets neglected at exam time. Herbs- I cook with alot of garlic, and when Ainslie was tiny I put garlic in most of her vegie/meat/pasta meals, sometimes that baby had horrible garlic breath but it worked. At present she takes flaxseed oil, chlorophyl (alfalfa) capsules, garlic and horseradish tablets and a good multivitamin/mineral tablet. She has always had a good multivitamin and vitamin E (the flaxseed capule contains this now). Good luck with it all, but remember to keep your doctor informed of what you are giving your son, or check with your pharmacist, as some natural remedies can react with medications your doctor may prescribe. I work hard on nutrition and exercise with Ainslie, meat and chicken that has no antibiotics or preservatives, lots of good fresh fruit and vegies and try to limit the preservatives - tried to eliminate them altogether but that became a very expensive exercise almost everything available has some sort of preservative in it. Guest guest
Jana, Thanks for the info on the list! I actually did join it a couple of weeks ago and Danna and others were extremely helpful with information for me. We still have *some* GI issues, but they are decreased drastically since cutting out wheat. And then when I did give pasta after a 4-week abstention from most wheat, he had the absolute most awful gas for 24 hours or so afterward. My daughter doesn't seem to be affected, but I'm not sure. Her digestion has always been perfect unless she has a virus. As far as the GI issues we still have, Jake seems to go through short periods of mild malabsorption, and times when his stool is more light/orangey as opposed to dark brown. Sometimes stool floats instead of sinks. We have noticed the most dramatic improvement in GI symptoms since we began supplementing him with crataegus a couple of months after diagnosis. (There is a list with information on this therapy, crataegus ) Still we have had, though, these occasional bouts of light and/or oily stool. So far it seems that going off wheat has helped this and that most noticeably, any gas is gone. )O( mama to , 2yo, wCF and alpha-1 and to , 4 yo, w/alpha-1 but no CF Thanks, . I completely agree with you about not pursuing a formal celiac diagnosis and just avoiding gluten. My daughter, as I'm sure have your children, has been through way too much already, to prepare her for another surgery seems just plain cruel, especially since the gluten-free diet has been quite effective. Have you noticed a significant difference in your children's stools since switching to gluten-free? We're not completely cured, but there's a huge improvement. I often wonder if I've missed some gluten in something or if there's something else going on. We've had plenty of GI problems in the past and so it could be anything. Well, thanks again for the support. I belong to a celiac kids email list if you're interested, we exchange some GREAT recipes and support. The group is moderated by Danna Korn who wrote an amazing book called " Celiac Kids " . Take good care of yourself. Hugs, Jana

Guest guest
I have a question. A lot of you seem to be talking lately about herbal remedies and I remember a few days ago some mentioning acidophilus (spelling?) I had another CF Mom mention it a long time ago and I'd love to try it with Wyatt but I don't know how to use it. He is 7, 47inches high and weighs about 50pounds. (in case that's important) Also any other advice on the herbal remedies would be greatly appreciated. I know I shouldn't just start treating him myself and should talk it over w/ the docs but I definately believe there's more out there than just conventional medicine that will help to keep him healthy. Thanks Christy > GARLIC is a natural antibiotic. I have eaten it everyday of my life almost > in some form or another. Guest guest
Gail, thank you for the warm wishes and the kind thoughts and prayers. I have a few more weeks of recovering to do but I think I will be better off in the long run for it!!! I am just so thrilled that I don't have pancreatitis anymore. I am however a mild Diabetic but that is being controlled by insulin at night and watching my diet during the day. I've been really lucky lately that my numbers are staying WNL. Guest guest
Terri, I rang her pulm. dr. again last night. She said to take her to our Gp and ask him to test for glandular fever. Apparently in young children the glands don't swell often but its the fever that they have. So at 9.20 this morning were off there. I just hate her missing school, although compared to last term this is only her 3rd day off this term, last term was almost 30. Hows the weather? We've had it really hot, early, and then the last few days have been cooler. We have had 6 power blackouts in our estate in 6 days. Do you get many of them there? Liam 8 wocf & Eilish 5 wcf Damn those viruses, hope she gets better soon. Sleep is one of the best things if she is not feeling well. When Ainslie was last unwell I started her on chloropyhl capsules from the chemist or health food stores - a cf mum with older kids had told me that she had used 'grass juice' literally, for her 2 when they were young, so I thought why not give it a try now. Well it helped alot and she has been on it all the winter and spring - I will stop it when school finishes as all the kids are tired at this time of year. Guest guest
Hey there , I apologize that I havent written to you sooner but I am sure you understand how hectic things can get. I appreciate your kind words always for Brandan and myself he loves to hear people are thinking of him especially someone from the group. Brandan now has been post op 4 months on Dec 12. I think the biggest thing one has to remember is that someone with this disease has suffered so very long, and been fighting pain so very long that it is going to take time for them to heal, physically and mentallly. I have had an array of mixed messages from many people who tell me how he should be doing especially the surgeons but even they are not sure, all I know for sure as always that it is " A DAY AT A TIME " . I would really like to chat with you and compare notes if you would like anytime, Thank you for your number I look forward to talking with you in the future. Please feel free to email me at Brwnbare9@... and we can start comparing notes, most of the time I recieve it quicker than reading the posts. As always keeping you and yours in our thoughts and prayers always...Keep smiling(cuz sometimes its all one can do!) TTFN...Peg : )
