Guest guest
Are there programs that assist in vaccinating animals that live at migrant camps? What are some ways this has been accomplished? We'd like some ideas to start a vaccination campaign at local camps. Has anyone been able to arrange for free or reduced cost neutering? Guest guest
Esther, In Michigan, there is a program for low-income families to get their pet's neutered. I believe there is a $10 charge. Mabye VA has something like it. As far as vaccinating the animals... We try to get the medical needs of our people taken care of, that is hard enough. In 20 camps that we visit around our area, there are no animals around. Do they take the animals with them as they migrate? I would try a local vet in your area or even the humane society for a start. Very interesting topic... Guest guest
If there are no federal programs for migrant pets maybe we can propose legislation to set up a division within the US Dept. of Agriculture to protect pets! Sorry about the sarcasm but there is some rationale for my attitude in this regard as I have been a critic, well known among the more senior members of this group. I have stated for over 20 years, that in this country we place more emphasis on standards for the care of animals, domesticated and others, than what we do for the quality of life for migrant workers and their families. My more constructive contribution though - The function of addressing the immunization for animals that are raised to co-habitate with or among humans, belongs to local health departments. Transfer this accountability to them ASAP. Alfonso > > Are there programs that assist in vaccinating animals that live at > migrant camps? What are some ways this has been accomplished?
