Guest guest
Liza Can you send me a picture of that scooter? Do you have a link on the internet that would show me? I have Rx for scooter and my insurance will pay for it but my issue is picking it up to put in my Subaru. How much does each piece weigh and do you have issues with your hands/wrists? I do and it is very difficult for me to grasp, pull, push and lift as well as un-doing. That is a real issue. It is hard to find people that have scooters. Some sort of stigma it seems but that would be best for me and besides my doctor refuses to write a Rx for a chair. something about me turning into a " little old lady " or the like. How hard was it to get one? I mean did your doc have to request one for you or can you just get one? Did your doctors tell you that you needed to get one? My husband and I wanted to take our kids to the zoo before school started but I can't go cause I know I'll never be able to walk it. For places like the zoo, Disneyland, etc you can always rent an electric scooter for the day. I tried one first before buying a small Pride Go-Go scooter for myself. Just hauled it in my car to the mall today for back-to-school shopping! My insurance wouldn't consider any sort of scooter or chair for me because they knew if my hip was eventually replaced, I should be fine again....however then they fought me for years over replacing the hip and I was hurting like heck trying to walk! So I forked over $900 myself for that scooter, which has been the best $$ I ever spent. Since I bought mine, I've seen them on Ebay even for as little as $300 brand new, so check online. The scooters are often less weight than the chairs. Mine comes apart in 4 pieces which easily fit in the under-shelf spot in my PT Cruiser. But if my son or hubby is with me, we just lift it up in one piece and it fits nicely with one of the back seats down. Liza

Scooter Store - Pride Mobility Handicap Scooters Mine is the Go-go with the upgraded seat. The heaviest piece is about 28 lbs. I can take it apart & put it together alone, but I do get family to do the lifting. I do have injured wrists, but the real issue is lifting anything with my bad hip while on crutches. While I was just using one crutch i could do it, but lately I'm non-weight bearing at all with 2 crutches, so bending over and any lifting is getting harder! I'm going to look into a ramp from an off-raod store, so we can just drive it up into the Cruiser (by hand)! Liza
