Position Summary Provides learning activities and support that lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the Lone Star College System and the community. Responsibilities include learning facilitation, personal and professional development, and institutional and community service. Primary functions are to plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. Job Functions 1. Teaches a variety of EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and Paramedic courses. Teaches courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs including day, evening, weekend and off-campus classes, as needed. 2. Serves on college and District committees, as required. 3. Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner. 4. Develops and utilizes a course syllabus for each course following established institutional guidelines. 5. Advises students in academic matters. Initiates conferences with students encountering academic and/or clinical difficulties. 6. Provide timely, quality access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods. 7. Continuously improves instructional quality by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods including collaborative learning, learning communities, service learning, instructional technology, and distance education. 8. Evaluates students' performance in relation to course objectives. Evaluates them by a variety of means to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs them in a timely manner of their progress. 9. Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. 10. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * Associate's degree in Emergency Medical Services or related field or Bachelor's degree and 3 years non-teaching work experience in the field. * Must be certified or registered as a paramedic in Texas. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or higher. * Advanced EMS Course Coordinator. * Community college teaching experience. * ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS or ITLS instructor. * Experience with program accreditation. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and providing a dynamic climate for lifelong learning. Salary Starting salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience. Position begins Fall 2012.
