Guest guest
I've had chronic bursitis in my left greater trochanter ever since my hip problems started about 18 months ago. I have AVN and OS in the one hip. When the Femur head is resurfaced, they don't go near the bursa, do they? Will I continue to have this annoying pain? It has been more persistant (though not as severe) as the groin pain. I can never lay on my left side any more. I've been looking forward to this after surgery, but it just occured to me that the source of this problem may not be fixed by resurfacing. Does anyone have experience with bursitis before and/or after resurfacing? Marie
Guest guest
Hi Marie, I had bursitis in both hips about a year and a half ago. What helped me most was Rest, Ice, Ibuprofen (taken consistently for at least a week, I took it for 10 days straight) and then lots of PT. I also discovered that the primary source of the pain was working 12 hour night shifts on an extremely busy Peds ICU. I stopped working nights and only work 8 hour shifts, I also rarely work as a bedside nurse now because it was sooo much standing. I'm of course waiting to see if I need the resurfacing now, which is a whole new kind of pain. At least I worked through the bursitis pain! Guest guest
Hi Marie, Well Marie if I managed to understand it from my 2 days just spent at an intro to anatomy course, the bursa is intertangled with the ligaments that wrap up the hip joint...........the bursa is actually responsible for the creation of the synoval fluid. So to get into the hip joint one would imagine they surely would have to 'touch' the bursa.......... but it obviously goes back to fairly normal as we all end up with synoval fluid later.........Mine has even gone back to creating synoval fluid after a rest of 35 years........... As to whether buritis continues following your resurfaced would probably be dependant on why the bursa was upset now......... if it is simply the irritation from the arthritis then without that, the bursa would surely settle down and stop being an issue............ A phone call to your surgeon who would have more idea the why of your particular buritis would seem the best approach to getting your question answered...........
