Guest guest
Hi Jo Wow what an ordeal again! Great that you can laugh about it thought with the people in the ER and not just get shrugged off as being a hypochondriac (no I am not bitter!). To answer your questions, I rarely, if ever, swell from an injury. That is one reason the doctor's dont really take me seriously on the 'quick look' of a joint. In their minds there is no way I could dislocated my wrist yet have no swelling. I have found that my knee that has had the surgery on it swells and lately my jaw has been swelling due to my wisdom teeth but that should go away soon! Hope your feeling in good spirits still and know that I am ALWAYS near by for a whine or vent or just down right good bitch session Stacey
Guest guest
Jo -- I hope that you are better soon. It's great that you have such a good relationship with the people in your ER - they sound like really good people. By the way, how is that Dario (the regal prince of the barnyard) doing these days? Take care, Patti Plastered again and another question! Hi guys, just to let you know that I finally succumbed to the rubbing problems with the aircast and had to return yet again to my ER dept for more discussions over what to do with me. When , and myself finally stopped laughing at the whole comical situation and ruled out shooting me as being a little messy, it was decided that a plaster cast was the only way to go. Thankfully, these guys know me really well and always do the best for me...so has given me a very solid, but light weight cast that I can weight bear a little through - thus saving my poor wrist a little! So I know look even more like a train wreck, but at least I'm more supported and comfortable. Just hope that Mac can give me some good news on Wednesday, once he recovers form passing out from either despair or hysterics! Will keep you posted. I was so funny at the hospital today though, I swear it's like a friends reunion when I go up these days as most of the staff have become friends over the years. and being two of my closest pals - you know your spending too much time in hospital when your ER doc is pelased to see you and plonks herself in your cubicle, asking if she can escape for a while and you start talking about her riding in Arizona for 10 minutes! It's great that I have such faith, trust and fun in place there now though as it used to be a very different story. I do actually get preferential treatment there now as I'm kind of a pet patient and our friendships have grown as understanding and respect for my condition and personality has developed. It's nice to finally feel cared for and safe when I go up as thankfully there is almost always someone there who knows of me and my situation and can rescue me from the naive newbie's that don't have the foggiest! I laughed so much this afternoon though as was very curious about how far my joints will stretch - so I pulled a few tricks (yes, I know it's naughty!!) for her to kind of highlight the extra movement aspect. At that point though sidles up beside me, closes the cubicle curtain again and says watch this - he then grabbed his head with both hands and popped his TMJ out!! LOL and I were howling as he pushed it back in, at which point he declared we were twins and rather disgustedly suggested I go with my freaky friend before we both scare the whole department away!! It was such a classic moment and highlights the fantastic relationship I have with the staff up there now - gosh I feel so lucky to finally have this!! Obviously I wish i didn't need to see these guys so often, but it's nice knowing that when I do need to go, it's not going to be an unecessarily painful and protracted ordeal. Anyway, I really should go rest this mashed up body of mine as the poor thing is screaming regardless of humour! Take care everyone and know I'm thinking of you all. Love and hugs.....Jo xxx Oh, by the way, I wanted to ask yet another silly question - does anyone else out there find they don't well much when they injure themselves or dislocate etc? Considering the severity of my ankle dislocation I haven't swelled much at all and never really do, I bruise very easily but have never really swelled much. Was just wondering whether it was an EDS thing or a me mutant thing! Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Jo, I have never swelled much with injuries, which is why I think doctors usually are surprised at the extent of the injuries I've had. In particular, I'm thinking of the torn ACL ligaments in my knees...never swelled at all, with either one! The doctors were shocked when they finally discovered what had happened. I wasn't though, as we know when our bodies HURT that bad, that something must have happened - that 'something is horribly wrong' feeling that surfaces, know what I mean?? Love Lana p.s. I hope things are looking up a bit, Jo! Take it easy, am thinking of you! > Oh, by the way, I wanted to ask yet another silly question - does > anyone else out there find they don't well much when they injure > themselves or dislocate etc?
