Guest guest
Hi Tina,…..I have had high liver enzymes several times, and my Dr. didn’t seem too concerned. I didn’t have any of the below symptoms, as those go along with late stage liver disease. Usually you don’t have any noticeable symptoms. Now my daughter [Tina too J] hers were very high and they did an ultrasound on her to check gallbladder and liver, and dx’ed her with “fatty liver disease”. [non-alcoholic fatty liver] They are keeping an eye on it and will retest in a few months also. My daughter is very over weight as I am too, and they told her if she could lose even a little weight she could reverse the fatty liver. My recent last liver enzymes came back normal and lower than they’ve ever been. I have changed my diet, but I still am having problems losing any weight due to other illnesses I have. So if you are really worried about it, ask for an ultrasound and ask if you might have a fatty liver too. I’m not sure but I don’t think you have to be overweight in order to have this?I’m sorry for all the troubles you’ve been having, summers are suppose to be fun, but for most of us MS’ers they just aren’t, especially if they are hot. We haven’t been having extreme hot temps, but the humidity and barometric pressure has been playing havoc with me. I hope you feel better soon.Hugs, Jackie in Oregon From: MSersLife [mailto:MSersLife ] On Behalf Of Tina SchmidtSent: Friday, August 05, 2011 10:51 AMTo: mserslifeSubject: Can liver enzymes have a false positives, and I may be out of options Okay, Wednesday, I had a liver panel drawn. Guest guest
Okay, I've just gotten off the phone from the doctor's office. She had ordered a metabolic panel, and that's where my liver tests were elevated. Next week she's doing a hepatic function test. I don't know why she wanted to wait a week though. I'm still concerned, as no one has been able to tell me so far exactly what this all means. I mean, if my liver is screwed up, then I can't take the Ty. Tina Okay, Wednesday, I had a liver panel drawn. Guest guest
My brother does have a fatty liver - but he's an alcoholic. At first, they thought my sister's liver was damaged - she used to be a crack addict - but the secondary testing they did came out fine. My brother says he has to avoid Tylenol products - but those are the only things I can take - I can't take NSAIDs because of my GERD/Barret's esophagus. I'm just - well, thrown for a loop. As for diet, yeah, I'm still obese, but at a " good weight " for me - I maxed out at over 200 pounds in 2001, lost a bit of that weight at the end of the year after I got taken off Remeron - well, my weight's been a yo yo because of the anti-depressants the last 10 years. I was at around 140/150 or so before I was put on Lyrica, and that shot my weight up to 180 - so I was taken off of it - I lost the water, but never did lose the weight, and that was three years ago (right before my MS diagnosis). My weight usually stays right around there, except at " that time of the month " . I guess at this point, I'm hoping that the hepatic panel shows everything is okay. Guest guest
Please please anyone with liver problems especially a 'fatty liver' ask to be tested for hemochromatosis if you haven't already. Ex and his family had/have it and it's so easy to treat. And can be so devastating if not treated ... hugs, Cait Hi Tina,…..I have had high liver enzymes several times, and my Dr. didn’t seem too concerned.
