The first images of Comet Elenin from the stereo B cameras are onboard now.  It’s growing in size and the tail is about 1/6 the size of the sun.

On October 16 the comet reaches its closest point to the Earth, providing that its trajectory remains the same.  There’s so much noise about this on the web that it looks like some people really want to kick up dust about this.  I’m not at all convinced that Comet Elenin poses a major threat for this planet but am curious about the agenda behind the dust kicking about it.

 

 

Some people are also making a big deal out of the coronal mass ejection (CME) expected to reach Earth tomorrow (August 5).  All I have to say is that much large CME have washed over this planet and very few people noticed.  NASA’s announcement about the threat to the electrical grid that CME’s pose has created overnight experts, generally those who like to say “I know a lot about...â€Â  Again, cosmic rays and magnetic and electrical factors pose a far more imminent risk than solar ejecta at present.

 

We’ll have to see how things look on August 6, but, at this time, I don’t see any great threat coming our way.  There’s a lot more noise than genuine signal in the air.
