Guest guest
Howdy Alan, May I ask, are you currently bone on bone? And if so, is Dr. Theo suggesting that lost cartilage can be rebuilt? Or is it merely the hope of stopping the degradation of cartilage. It's hard to imagine " lost " cartilage being restored. I think I'll check out the website. Thanks for the post, it's fascinating and exciting. But you realize that, if by using ASU you would avoid a resurface, you'll be disallowed from the " cobalt can-can " at our convention. Guest guest
Yo, Chris... Left hip; bone-on-bone, which is why, at first, I cancelled the order. But there's also very early stage OA in the right hip. Figured I have nothing to lose taking for the right hip...and if something good happens with the left... how bad can that be? As I've understood the medicine of this, there may still be remnants of cartilege, even in bone-on-bone conditions. The claim for ASU is that it feeds the cartilege " matrix " , and thereby grows new stuff. I figure, if I save the other hip, I'm ahead of the game...and anything else is just gravy. If the stuff actually works, not only would I be denied the obvious pleasures of the cobalt can-can, but I would also be denied a chance to brag in mixed-gender public about the size of my balls. Some sacrifices are just toooo great to ponder. ((The stuff that goes on here)) Hey...you still take it easy. It sounds like you may have pushed a bit too hard the first day back at work. It's not like you're just pushing a pencil, you know. All the Best. Guest guest
Hmmmmmm...ASU...that's where two of my children go to college...Appalachian State University in Boone, NC....seriously, if it works, that's great but the price makes me skeptical...I went to a conference on " The Emerging Epidemic of Bone and Joint Disease " (this was a continuing education conference for pharmacists, nurses, therapists, nutritionists, etc.)....in their alternative approaches section they mentioned nutmeg as an old Indian remedy...take three whole nutmeg (health food store), grind...in coffee grinder (after smashing with meat mallot) ...and mix in 1 quart water. Take three sips a day. Now three nutmeg are only about $1.50..... I eat tons of soy and avacados but my hips are still a wreck....but hey, keep me posted! If it works, I'll try it! I'm gonna check my couse outline for that conference and see if they mentioned ASU. I may have overlooked it. Thanks for giving us a new treatment to investigate! Guest guest
Alan, All good points, sir. I think ll of us " one-siders " would like to do all that may be possible for our non-op hips. As much as I miss the night life at JRI, I'd really like my good hip to last til' age 100. And I feel much better today!!!! I did try to be too macho at work, but it's ok. I learned my lesson. I swam this morning for 1/2 mile or so, and even went 15 minutes on the stationary bike (at level 1, mind you)...but I feel good! My leg condition gets worse as the day wears on, and so my outlook does as well. I'm always more positive in the mornings. My stretching is giving hope for the future as well. My PT buddy is large and in charge, and has me moving in the right direction. Since I was whining so much about the flexion issue, he gave me a 45cm exercise ball that I rest my operated side foot on while laying on my back. This way I can flex my hip up without having to grab my leg or support the weight. I just roll the leg on top of the ball! So simple, but it is working great! And I can progress at my own pace, without him shoving my knee toward my chin. I accidently rammed my surfboard into his kneecap last summer while surfing together, and he was out of the water for 2 weeks....now he is exacting his revenge. Guest guest
Yo, Memphis Belle... Suggest you go to Dr. Theo's website. Or check out the updated version of his " Arthritis Cure " book. You can read the critical parts while you're standing in the aisle at the bookstore...then you don't even have to buy the book. In either place he eplains that the substances in ASU occur in such minute quanitities in avocado and soybeans that you just couldn't eat enough to get a useful amount. If anybody else had recommended it, I probably wouldn't have noticed, but he's got a track record and was way out in front on glucosamine and chondroitin. I have no idea if it works. I'm not selling it, pitching it or recommending it. I hope it works, but I'm also still waiting for the word on what -- if any -- my resurf insurance will cover. And whatever happens, I'm expecting/hoping that resurfacing is my future. I posted the message because somebody who may know something (and who certainly seems to know a lot more than I) has written something that may be important to other people here, even if it's too late for me. And whatever happens, I'm expecting/hoping that resurfacing is my future. I posted the message because somebody who may know something (and who certainly seems to know a lot more than I) has written something that may be important to other people here, even if it's too late for me. Guest guest
-Alan!~ I will check out that book and visit the website...like I said...I'm all for something that works...I've a collection of potential remedies....and I'm into natural substances and I highly respect soy in any form ...but I have this feeling like so many others on this web site...that hip resurfacing is the only answer for my hips....but ASU might be useful for all these other joints in my body, eh? Any pharmacists/nutritionists/chemists in our group out there??? What insurance company are you dealing with about your resurfacing? I'm wondering about that myself. Guest guest
Hi Alan, I have a vague memory that this came up before as I have been out to that web site before........... As I see it the problem with so much of this variety of 'take something and it will all be better' is that firstly the body has to recognize the need to actually take the stuff to the particular joint and repair it............. i.e. simply taking something sadly doesn't mean that the body knows what to do with it............ realises that it has to take it to a hip joint and regrow cartledge etc. Secondly it seems to me that a percentage of joint arthritis has much to do with the joint bones getting irritated because muscles are not providing support in an appropriate manner...........I suspect one would have to get that pressure off first before any substance would be able to make headway with healing, even if the body automatically knew what to do with it........ As someone who has had extensive arthritis in joints because of damage through the stress of my fused hip I have had people tell me of 'cures' for many a long year now............. Nothing I ever did has had as much impact as getting a new hip and now being able to get some effective and appropriate exercise.......... But bodies do do interesting things as the recent AVN guy just proved........... I wish you well with your testing.............
