Hey Debi, don't push it. Cowboys may get sore asses from bucking bronco's but

this is more than a few notches up from that.

You want to be as comfortable as you can with the least amount of stress,

physical and mental, for at least 4-6 weeks post-surgery. If you find a miracle

alternative to THR like re-surfacing, why put yourself at risk by jumping back

into life so soon?

The joys follow at an appropriate time, no matter how tough and stubborn you

may be. Only you can decide when that time is, but I really think you're not

giving yourself enough time.

IMPOSSIBLE. No way could you EVER have surgery on a Thursday and then go

to work the following Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They don't even let you

out of the hospital until that Sunday. You cannot work a 6-8 hour any time

soon thereafter. Especially one that requires as much activity as you

describe. It makes no difference if you're a type A or a workaholic, you

will only hurt yourself and have had the surgery for naught if you do

anything remotely like what you describe.

If summer is your busy season, then perhaps you might postpone your surgery

until the end of the summer. Most people who post here have returned to

work (if they HAD to) P/T 3-6 weeks after surgery. Those who HAD to go back

so early often complain of tiredness and fatigue. Most people prefer to

wait 6-8 weeks, if able to. Those who can wait longer, do. If you choose

to rush it, healing will actually go slower. Your body will be undergoing

a serious surgery, it needs rest.

scheduled and insurance ?

Hey Hippies - I don't post much but have been avid about reading all the

posts. I was

scheduled for a THR in January and totally by coincidence I found out about

resurfacing - boy am I glad I did. I am 41 and the thought of a THR just

about put me over the edge. I am scheduled July 15 with Dr. Boyd to have my

right hip done. All the information that is available from you has truly

been a godsend. I was wondering if anyone has insurance with the National

Association of the

Self Employed - NASE - MegaLife, and any info concerning the approval and

payment. Benefits told Boyd's office that they pay for any surgery as along

as it is a " medical necissity " but they won't have a final determination on

that until after the surgery is done and claims are submitted. Kinda leaves

too much to chance for me. Also, I have a very busy schedule during the

summer as a Rodeo Secretary and

was wanting opinions on how soon after surgery I would be up to working

again. If I had surgery on a Thursday would I be able to perform my duties

the following Friday, Sat and Sun. The driving part is handled, and would

be able to alternate standing and sitting but not in a very comfortable

chair most likely. Each performance would require me to be at the grounds

appreciated and again to everyone

that is so giving of their time to share their experiences and knowledge -

you are appreciated. Debi

Debi,

Not a chance! This is major surgery after all. I went to a two hour

continuing ed. class about a week and a half post-op, and was ready for bed

as soon as it was over. I got to sit in plush office chairs with arms, and

was not terribly happy with it at that point. I went back to work after

two weeks, but was definitely exhausted by the end of the day, and that was

with a nap at lunchtime. And if rodeos are anything like dog shows, the

accommodations are generally better for the animals than the people. There

is no way you will be happy stuck in a folding chair. And Dr. Boyd

wouldn't be too happy with you either ;-).
