Guest guest
Suspect arrested after allegedly shooting at Houston ambulance A suspect was arrested Tuesday hours after he allegedly opened fire on an ambulance as paramedics were inside treating man who had been wounded in a shooting Monday night in east Houston. Authorities said the man was taken into custody at about the same spot where police said he opened fire on the ambulance the night before. The man, whose name has not been released, was arrested about noon at 125 N. Super St. near Canal, which is about the same location where the previous shooting occurred, said Jodi Silva, a spokeswoman for the Houston Police Department. The man is believed to be the same person who wounded the victim in the first shooting, Silva added. Silva said no charges have been formally filed against the suspect so far, but he probably may face charges of aggravated assault against a public servant. A Houston Fire Department ambulance had been dispatched about 9 p.m. Monday to 125 N. Super on a call about a shooting, Silva said. A man had broken up a domestic dispute in his front yard, but then the son of his girlfriend opened fire, hitting the man in the leg. When the paramedics arrived at the scene, they asked the man to move his vehicle because it was blocking the street and the ambulance could not get by. After the paramedics reached the gunshot victim and were treating him inside the ambulance, the suspect opened fire, hitting the ambulance. Three bullet holes appeared to be in the vehicle. The man drove away after the gunfire. Police later found his car abandoned nearby. He eluded capture but then returned to the shooting scene where he was arrested. Police said the man wounded in the initial shooting was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital. His name and condition were not released. Police are investigating the case, HPD officials said.
