Hello everyone,

Well two weeks ago I saw my OS for the first time, and he suggested

I look at this board and searched the internet for information on

hip resurfacing! After a CT scan and another consultation two weeks

later I am organising to go and hopefully be resurfaced in 4 weeks

time. ( never been in hospital except to visit in 48 years so a big

step!!) I am in Nottingham, England and am having my op with Mr

Manktelow a veteran of 150 resurfs trained by Treacey and Co in

Birmingham.....anybody out there been done by him at the Nuffield

hospital or at the QMC??

It is great to read all you have been through and the information is

fantastic..although I can't see anyone who seems to have my

problem ...there must be someone. I have been diagnosed as having a

slightly shallow acetabular cup but a very deformed femoral head,

that doesn't fit properly with various side bone growths that have

led to significant dysplasia, on one side, the other is completely

normal. He said I was a " one of a kind " as you American's would

say!! The plan is to reshape the femoral head into something more

normal, and then do a BHR. He has suggested a 70% likelihood of

success and if not a ceramic on ceramic THR. Anybody been here

before? He says that he will only be able to tell when he can look

and feel the quality of the femoral bone.

I have gradually been losing mobility and becoming increasingly

limpy for the last 10 years and have got to the point where I have

had enough of the retrictions. ( no more cricket...very frustrating)

Have little pain but lots of stiffness. Am a very keen swimmer, but

the good doctor has said virtually no activity in my case for 6

weeks...is this unusual?

I am sure I will have more questions, but that's a bit of a start.

Looking forward to some interesting discussions.

BHR (hopefully) 6/04
