Belgium questions re communitcating back to home

Dear Friends,

I am new to this site and have learned so much already! Thanks to

all of you who are so willing to share your experiences and answer

questions.

I will be going for surgery in a couple of weeks and I am wondering

how you communicated with family back in the US. Did you get an

international calling card somewhere? Are there internet cafes in

Ghent or near the hospital somewhere?

Any tips on what to take or not take with me?
