Our neighborhood Houston Fire Station (#13 on 43rd St.) was where we went to have our bicycles inspected and paid to have them registered. We got a little reflective sticker that mounted on the frame, similar to the old license plate registration stickers, which Houston Police could then use to track down the owner for a lost or stolen bicycle. It was a collaborative partnership between HFD, HPD and I think HISD because they did the bicycle safety trainings at school and required the bicycles to be registered for us to ride them to school. Does anyone know if HFD still does that or if that program is still in existence? Looking back it seemed like a pretty good program that made everyone involved look good to the community and since we paid for the registration the program was self funded.
