Guest guest
please fill me in on why you think resurfacing will take too long. what have you done so far? sorry if you've already posted this info.... there are a growing number of competent u.s. trial surgeons, i can't imagine that someone can't take you sooner than later. a year and a half ago, i went to have mine done in baltimore. here's the contact info in case you want to check out dr. jacobs -- who was amazing, as was his staff, hospital and rehab center. I couldn't urge you more to get resurfaced. I had to fight the pain and everyone around me who couldn't stand watching me in pain. I stood my ground and did the research, the surgeon interviews, the patient interviews, etc. etc. And I got my life back 18 months ago: Dr. s, M.D. Chief of Orthopedic Surgery - Team Orthopedist- Baltimore Orioles Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery- s Hopkins University Good Samaritan Hospital Bldg. - Room 405 5601 Loch Raven Blvd. Baltimore, MD 21239 Maureen in Manhattan
Guest guest
I may have to go ahead with hip replacement instead of resurfacing. I need relief ASAP and can get this done much quicker. Being a health care giver for 20 years, I know this leval of pain needs addressed. I am a Radiation Therapist treating cancer patients via linear accelerators. I am not handling my pain well and am seeing a psychiatrist @ UCLA tomorrow to work thru my fear and perhaps get medication to calm my nerves and make better choices. In twenty years of dealing with patients I have rarely seen reactions like mine.( sometimes we are the worst patients....we know to much )I am still looking into other docs doing resurfacing, but am running out of time. I hope I can still visit this site....you guys are great. Just because I may end up with replacement doesnt mean I think resurfacing is not a good choice. In fact I think it is the better choice! I have to thank everyone again for the emails and calls.geez you guys are so brave. keep your fingers crossed I can find someone soon Thanks again D O N
Guest guest
Don, I am so sorry you are in so much pain physically and emotionally. You are heading in the right direction though. I think getting help for your emotional pain management is an excellent idea. Also, regardless of what procedure you decide upon, I think you should check your area for a pain center. There are pain manangement specialists who help people just like you get through times like this. (To help you get through this time until the surgery). I wish for you to be at peace and pain free as soon as possible, but I do not wish for you to allow pain and desperation to make your decisions for you. This is your body, your temple, and as impossible as it may seem to you now, it would benefit you in the long run if you can believe in and plan for a future where this pain is not an issue. Coincidently, I work in Radiation Therapy as well. Gook luck, Don! > I may have to go ahead with hip replacement instead of resurfacing. I > need relief ASAP and can get this done much quicker. Guest guest
Hi, would you consider going to Belgium? I sent my x-rays to Dr. DeSmet and he replied within a day or 2 of receiving them and he got me in for surgery within a month. Let me know if you'd like more info on this. It's good you're taking care of your emotional health; pain can make you do things you wouldn't do otherwise. Something I heard many years ago has proved to be true time and again--try never to make a decision when your emotions are in control of you. Good luck to you! Guest guest
Hello D O N Although I research resurfacing and follow the SurfaceHippie a long time befor e I actually had surgery my surgery time line was very short!!!!! I saw Dr Kennedy mid April and my surgery was 5 weeks after my initial appointment. It could have been sooner but I was not ready. Please keep looking. I am sure your selected surgeon will be sympathetic to you needs. . . ..particularily if you are in so much pain.
