If they get into the lungs or heart it will kill you. They also develop deep in the muscles, attach to tendons and ligaments, and even the bones. It’s a horrendous disease and nothing helps. Exercise makes it worse, almost impossible to lose weight, and you can have them removed but 3 or more can grow in their place. The surgeon has to know what he is doing and recognize that these are not normal fatty lipomas, because if you don’t get the whole thing down to the root then they come back with a vengeance . That’s what happen to my son when he had 2 removed from along his lower spine. They didn’t know about him having Dercums then. Some people only resort to having them removed if they are especially painful and interfering with movement. I am wondering if the one in my left bicep is causing all the pain in that arm? Maybe its pressing on that tendon. Dercums is like fibromyalgia on steroids. They share many of the same symptoms. Hugs back to you, and hoping you are feeling better. Are you still cold? I meant to tell you that someone was telling me about a woman they met who has lipomas (sp?) that keep popping up all over her body and she has them removed by a surgeon about once a month. I asked if she had Dercums and the answer was yes! She said they have to remove the lumps because otherwise they send out like feeders that wrap about nerves. It’s not like I’m going to make it happen, but I can’t imagine another 10 yrs. of living like this. After a while you get to the point when you say enough is enough. How much longer and more can one person take? My whole life use to consist of “doing†for others, and being on the go, and always having several irons in the fire, and I thrived living such an active life. Little by little all of that has been taken from me. Maybe it’s the menopausal hormones talking, or MS depression, but I’m tired of not having a life, and no one but really all of you here to talk to and be my friends. I sure do appreciate that. And yes there are things I am thankful for, and I am grateful for what I do have. It’s just that I never imagined my life living in chronic pain, and with so many disabilities to deal with on a daily basis. So yes in 10 yrs. I will be happy to be with Jesus because then I’ll have a pain free AND new body. My good arm looks like it may be a chronic pain condition too, so typing is going to be difficult, because I have a hard time not typing a lot to say. So I will probably try that Dragon speak eventually. I could go on and expound on my misery, but I don’t want to bring everyone down. Hopefully this depression will cycle and I’ll see things a little brighter soon. The lady I mentioned with Dercums said she sees one of the surgeons my daughter-in-law works for. I wonder if that is the reason for your arm pain??? Perhaps.
