Guest guest
Hi! I've been to the chiro two times. I know it has made a positive difference in the pain in the back of my head, but I concerned about the heat wave I've been under since last Friday. The chiro had no explanation for this. Also, my neck feels a little stiff and I'm experiencing pain in my tail bone and mid back...all happening after the adjustments. The chiro is very gentle, so I think I'm dealing with some soft tissue issues as well. I did get info from Mike, but he was out of town before he could respond to my last e-mail. Like you, he suggested the cranialsacral therapy along with acupressure, and polarity X. I would appreciate any info you may have about these areas as they are completely unfamiliar to me. Would you have a feel for what I might do next? Do I continue with the gentle adjustments and find other professionals concurrently to help with the other two areas? Or, do I just do one avenue at a time? Another concern: I leave on June 10th for a 3 week vacation to the east coast. Hope the flights are smooth!! Four children...sounds like you have a classroom of students! Ginny Feeling sunburned in CA (wish I could say I've been out in the sun)! Guest guest
Ginny - all the symptoms you describe could be a result of the chiro adjustment - all would usually be considered temporary and healing symptoms. I like to think about the begining of chiro adjustments (and many other therapies) like peeling back the layers of an onion. The chiro I used in NJ called it 'retracing'. Basically what happens is that you get an initial injury - often you don't notice it or you don't get proper treatment and correction - your body compensates, and pain goes away. Note that I said pain goes away, not that the injury heals. Then you eventually get another injury, body compensates, etc. So when the chiro adjusts you all of a sudden the body say 'hey, this is a problem, too - I want this fixed, too' and you get more pain - often in a different place. Also there is a huge connection between what goes on in your cervical spine and your pelvis. To top it off, there is a belief, in the chiro world at least, that your body prioritizes what it wants fixed and will put symptoms there accordingly. From what I understand you almost have to have soft tissue problems if you have joint and muscle injuries. I know I do and with the pain areas you describe - I would guess it is muscles adjusting to their new location. Does your chiro treat soft tissue? Some do and some don't. I know my chiro doesn't do much and recommends getting a good massage - dep tissue (although the last deep tissue massage I had was about the most horrible health care I've ever had - every MT is different). She is also supportive of me going to the pt for deep muscle and tissue work, trigger point therapy and myofascial release. Depending on how you feel - the above treatments all work well with chiropractic as does acupuncture, reflexology and others - so you could do those concurrently with gentle chiropractic - or you can just do the chiro for a few more weeks and see how you feel then. I personally have found that starting with one for a little while and then adding the rest slowly is what works best - otherwise I get too much of a reaction and feel awful. Oh, and some of the achyness, pain, etc are often just part of the detox. The heat wave if I understand you correctly - could be part of increased blood flow - increase bp (if yours was low to begin with) or just plain ol' yucky detox. Have fun on your trip - keep moving on the plane - and I hope the flights are smooth, too As for my four children - a full day and a pure joy.
