A while ago there was a debate on at least one of the EDS-related

Yahoo groups about whether or not EDS patients can/should get LASIK

surgery. I just thought I'd let everyone know that I just had my

first appointment with my eye dr since my diagnosis. I came prepared

with some literature about EDS from the EDNF office as well as " The

Role of Collagen in the Eye. " As soon as my dr saw that EDS is a

connective tissue disorder, the very first thing he said was " Well,

you are definately not a candidate for LASIK. " I had never brought

up LASIK surgery with him before so this was his spontaneous reaction

to EDS. When I ask why not, he said that (at least in his office)

they do not do LASIK on people with connective tissue disorders

because they can't be sure how the patient will heal and it isn't

worth the risk. I don't know if this helps anyone, but I just thought

I'd share.

Eeks! I just keep wondering what would have happened if I got LASIK

before I knew had had EDS. Would I have been lucky or would the

procedure have been a mess?
