Hey y'all,

Texas EMS Conference is moving to one week earlier for 2012.

We know this is a big change, and the decision was not made lightly. But we also

know this change will have a really positive impact on this year's conference by

offering great savings on hotel rates and by reducing the competition for space

and attention throughout downtown.

New conference dates: November 11-14 (Preconference November 10-11) This is not

the week of Thanksgiving!

The conference has been the week of Thanksgiving for many years. Why are we

moving dates now?

* The Formula One car racing series will have its inaugural Texas race

on a track just east of Austin the weekend before Thanksgiving this year. Tens

of thousands of people from all over the world will be coming to Austin,

competing for hotel rooms in downtown Austin.

* Although we sign contracts with hotels and convention centers at least

three years in advance, the newly scheduled Formula One race is causing a

conflict. The hotels anticipate being significantly overbooked, with people

willing to pay top dollar for hotel rooms. It's likely that downtown restaurants

and other entertainment venues will also be overcrowded and commanding higher

prices during that event week.

* The Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau made offers for us to move

the conference to a week earlier to reduce overcrowding. After much negotiation,

all of the conference hotels have agreed to lower overnight rates, even lower

than the discounted rates we usually get. Rates will now be as low as $85 for a

single or double occupancy, with a $98 single/double at the Hilton.

* Next year the conference will return to Fort Worth. And we will be

back to the week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 25-27, 2013).

See you in Austin! Going to be a great conference this year!
