A hacker broke into the DHH database for EMTs and First Responders on

Sept. 17, according to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.

A letter from DHH dated October 8, obtained by News 2, states " Although

access to the Portal is password protected, a " hacker " was able to

obtain unauthorized access and post a message on the system. Although

the hacker's intent is not know, his unauthorized entry into the Portal

gave him access to your name and personal information, including your

social security number. Whether the hacker actually viewed or copied

your personal information cannot be determined. "

Close to 56,000 people are in this database; it includes anyone who has

ever applied for an EMT certification, received and EMT certification or

have applied for an out of state certification.

DHH has notified the Attorney General's Cyber Crimes division and the

Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office to investigate the cyber hacking case. DHH

is not sure about the extent of the invasion.

There is no indication at this time that any of the 56,000 who had their

information compromised have reported any cases of identity theft.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recommends that consumers whose

personal information may have been compromised to take steps now to

detect or prevent misuse.
