Guest guest
Bob, For what it is worth, my local OS did Jack's hip. He is a very well respected doctor in this area, however, his advice to me to give up everything I enjoy in life or live in pain were not great alternatives for me personally at this juncture in my life. He wanted to do a bilateral THR ceramic/ceramic on me this month. I tried to get him to guarantee that the procedure would take ten strokes off my game. I was less interested in my surgeon's sense of fashion and ability to market and communicate as I was focused on track record and experience and the procedure itself. Although if anyone can pull off a bowtie it would be the good doctor himself. Addtionally, I spent several hours speaking with many patients of my OS who had been resurfaced five years ago and also reviewed more current experiences. They were all very gracious with their time. This proved to be valuable due diligence. There are also many long time and recent JRI patients who I am sure will give you plenty of data points given the absence of long term clinical data. Best of luck.... C+ Dr. Amstutz 5/04/04 (the sober guy with the good looking bowtie) > OK, on the left coast it looks like JRI or somebody in Salem OR. > Thanks for the clues, everybody. Bob, If you want the complete list of US surgeons doing resurfacing, there's a list of surgeons participating in both the Conserve Plus and Cormet 2000 trials on the " active joints " website, which you can find at: http://www.activejoints.com/resurfacing.html There are separate lists for each device. There is *lots* of other useful information on this site, as well. Speaking as somebody who was resurfaced (both hips at once) by the redoubtable Dr. Amstutz 34 days ago, you couldn't be in better hands. Guest guest
Hi Bob, Couldn't resist........... the truth's in the data............. good grief........... data doesn't have a hope of indicating 'truth'........... data is as easy to manipulate as soft clay and generally means whatever the collector and the reader wants it to prove either to themselves or others............smile. Interpretation of any information on any hip prothesis is fraught with preexisting conditions of patients bones and fitness, life expectancy, age, genes, surgeons skill, hospital systems, post op rehabilitation, desire of patient to regain fitness and surpass it, life conditions of the patient and general luck that people have............i.e. regardless of how special an OS someone has, conditions etc some people will still get stuck with their general luck of the moment...........which can mean that a difficult situation is saved or a great situation is ruined......... Glad though that our site at least makes you feel 'warm and fuzzy'............ hopefully most of us share our honest feelings about how we are finding day to day life with our Resurface implants.........and it ends up being a cross section of the good, the bad and the ugly...........smile.
