Guest guest
: When you call over at the hospital, ask to talk with the nurse that is in charge of the C+ study. Her first name is Kathy (I'm sorry I went to look up her last name and can't find it). Be assertive. Tell them you sent the x-rays to be part of the C+ study and that you will be coming a very long distance and NEED A CALL BACK (or be connected to Kathy). Otherwise you may just be getting some operator who has no clue why you want Dr. Mont. Hope this helps. Lois C+ 3/27/03 Dr. Mont waiting for Dr. Mont to call Hello, All: I have participated to some small degree in this group for the few months. I have an appointment to see Dr. Mont in Baltimore in late May, but I sent him my xrays at the beginning of April. I've been calling his office every week to see if he's looked at them; I'm told by various people that they will put me on his " call " list, but so far I have not had any phone calls to say that I look like a candidate for resurfacing or a reject. I live far from Baltimore, so I really don't want to go down there at great expense only to find out that I'm not a candidate; more than that, I worry about how easy it will be to make contact with him after surgery, if I go to him. I've also had the impression that his office staff is not the most organized. These may be false worries and misimpressions, but I would welcome hearing from anyone in the group on these matters if they've used Dr. Mont. Feel free to respond to my email address rather than the group's. Thanks so much. , who needs a new left hip.
Guest guest
-- Hi . I tried to get hold of Dr. Mont a few months ago to check things out and they talked to me like I knew nothing about what I was talking about. I had heard nothing but good about Dr. Mont. Also at the same time was getting hold of Dr. Gross in South Carolina and what a difference. I live in Michigan and Carolina was a bit further. I had my right hip resurfaced on April 14th and can say nothing but spectacular things about Dr. Gross and Lee Webb and the entire staff. Something to think about. Kurt - In surfacehippy , " Lois G. Guest guest
Hi, Lois: Thanks so much for your response. So far, I've talked to several people, including Terry, his secretary. I think your suggestion is a good one, and I'll try it. I think I'll also contact Dr. Gross in S.C. But what has your experience been post-op with Dr. Mont and his staff? Are they responsive when you have a question or problem? This really concerns me, despite all the excellent things I hear about Dr. Mont, including two recommendations for him from surgeons here in Ann ARbor, where I live, who went to him for resurfacing. Thanks for your help. > > : > > When you call over at the hospital, ask to talk with the nurse that is in > charge of the C+ study. Guest guest
If you want to stay in the Baltimore area, here was my choice there; I don't know if he's still participating in the Corin trial, but it's really worth a call: I had a great experience with him, the hospital and the rehab center in Baltimore (world renowned, operated in conjunction with s Hopkins). If/when I have to convert to THR or have my other hip resurfaced, I would not hesitate to repeat my choice. Please contact me at maureen@... if you have questions along the way. Good luck! Guest guest
, I was in same boat. Approx 2 years ago I was diagnosed locally (5+ hours from Balt) with AVN and told to get a THR. By purest chance I found out about resurfacing. I sent my X-rays asking if I was resurf candidate to Dr. Mont and sweated. Called his office several times. Subsequently learned that he looks at these " Am I a candidate " X-rays about once a month in his free time (usually Sunday). Dr. Mont called me after about three weeks on a Sunday evening and we discussed the X- rays and procedure for about 20 minutes. I set up and appointment and saw him. He and his assistant talked to me for about 40 minutes. I learned that I did not have AVN. I had severe Osteoarthris (OA)in left hip and right was moderate OA. As I was dealing with life and pain ok - he suggested I wait and see how right went (Sometimes OA doesn't progress - it was a question of one resurf versus bilateral). In course of year my right got jealous of left and I went back to see him to schedule a bilateral. I had the bilat 2/23 and 3/1/04 at Sinai. I had absolutely no problems getting to see Dr. Mont or his staff in hospital. Sinai is an excellent hospital, excellent doctors, nurses and PT/OT staff. After six weeks of walking with crutches I now using canes with zero pain. Dr. Mont is more conservative re weight bearing then some other doctors. I am doing rehab now on treadmill and horizontal bike which I couldn't do before ops due to pain and range of motion issues. I had no problems with his office after my surgeries. They set up rehab and visiting nurse service with my local hospital. When I was back home and I had post op questions they were answered promptly. Dr. Mont is an excellent surgeon. The two recommendations by your local surgeons are well earned. He does lots of leading edge surgery. If you surf the net you will see many research articles by him. The week after my second surgery he was on the West Coast addressing the American Congress of Orthopedics on the topic of resurfacing. He is very caring, a perfectionist and an extremely hard worker. I don't think his office can keep up with his pace at times. And if you get accepted as a resurf candidate and see the paperwork required to meet FDA requirements you will wonder how his office gets anything done at all. The suggestion to get in touch with Kathy was good. Colleen in his office his another good contact. Finally, remember that most of the people here love their own resurf surgeon. We were in pain and faced with the limitations of THR (gardening, doubles tennis, gentle walks, etc..) After the resurf surgery we are pain free and free to do whatever (hockey, running, karate, rock climbing, ballet dancing, etc..) We will naturally praise the surgeon who performed our own resurf(s). You can email me directly if you have any other questions.
