Guest guest
Hi- Can anyone suggest a book that gives good, detailed info about rehabilitation (exercises to strengthen, activities that are contraindications, etc). I had a hemi about 4 weeks ago and am a young, active person in my " normal " life. I am itching to get back to all of my usual activities (surfing, cycling, yoga, etc), but am having a hard time getting definitive feedback from my Doc in rgards to which sports are realistic for me and how soon I can start back doing the things I love. I just started physio the other day, so maybe they can give me a better idea.....in the meantime, any suggestions for reading material/websites, etc would be appreciated. Thanks! H. lhanigan@... Guest guest
Hi, I suspect if you want a book on it you will have to write it...........smile. I would presume without seeing it that the book 'Heal your Hips would be a good place to start for specific hip exercises, even if it is a book that covers more preop people.......... There are so few things contra for a Resurface patient once you have the hip capsule healed - which seems to be around 12 weeks - that it is virtually how you want to do it from there/the state of your body now etc............. Various people have reported here of running on it for 10 years, going surfing, rock climbing, dancing, cycling, yoga etc............. Too much of anything will soon let you know with muscle pain but it seems to be pretty hard to actually damage the prothesis itself........... I would imagine it is simply a matter of looking at where you have lost muscle tone due to hip problems, what muscles are used the most in your favourite sports and starting work from there.......... i.e. follow the normal trail in fashion that people do who organise their bodies for particular sports.
