Margaret Hi Margaret: I tried everything, including magnetism. I was told in 1992 I'd need a THR in 2 - 5 years, and ended up getting a BHR in 2001. I wouldn't laugh off the magnetism but you probably won't know it's working because as you've seen on this group, some people stop feeling the pain before the surgery. I don't know how you explain that other than maybe your adrenalin is kicking in. In any event try all the things that aren't otherwise harmful but don't ignore the rate of degeneration of the bone so that you can't have a resurf. These unconventional approaches might help one way or the other but when it's time for surgery, it's time. Pain relief is a whole different issue, even though it's needed for the same condition. The mind is a very powerful thing and you can control the pain with all kinds of things temporarily, but when you have bone on bone, you need to face reality. Guest guest
hiya Coincidentally I just bought some of the patches last week. I had been really bad for a good month or so and now I do feel quite a lot better. I don't believe the stuff it tells you in the booklet you get with them, but somehow they seem to have helped me a little! Maybe it's psychosomatic but I don't care! (I've got ages to wait till I get to the top of a waiting list for my BHR). I can walk about a bit again. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, Several years ago my mother gave me one of those magnetic mattress affairs.......... expensive, named brand rah rah.......... I remember saying to someone not long after that the difference it seemed to make was that I didn't wake up so stiff and sore all over with difficulty moving etc.......... I didn't know whether it was the magnets perse but thought maybe that the material it was made out of helped keep my body at a better more even temp during the night and so the joints didn't get lockjaw............ I could also wonder whether that isn't the major affect all the various belts/straps etc have - i.e. keep the area warmer........... All this was pre my lovely BHR...........when all of my body moaned and groaned on a daily basis about living with a fused hip......... I also felt that that effect diminished over time but that could have been just the body getting worse................ I still sleep on it......... more habit than anything else I suspect.......... and the real thing that has made all the difference is the shiny lump of metal and being able to exercise properly again............smile. Guest guest
Morag, great, keep us posted. How are you going generally? what are you taking, etc. Am interested because I am not ready for op yet but want to make sure that I get in the queue at the right time.
