Any thoughts on this? I had a D&C slightly before the bigger symptoms came on, but was having dizziness and diorientation problems which may have been related to FMS symptoms...only other surgery type things were the birth of my daughter in '89, and a broken arm when I was 8...LoL! As for Type " A " ...yesssss! I think my symptoms popped up during an almost " breakdown " from my current workplace. I am a veterinary technician at a small but VERY busy practice (see about 1-2oo clients per week, plus assisted in 30- 40 surgeries/week, and 3-4 emergency afterhours surgeries that lasted til at least 9pm /week) I was the ONLY vettech there for about 9 months, logging in anywhere from 52-62 hours per week, no lunch breaks, standing, running, lifting all the time and alternating 13 days workweeks with 6 day workweeks. Plus a full time family, including aniamls kid and husband...ha! If I sit down for any amount of time, such as to watch a movie (which is rare I actually sit thru the whole thing,) I fall asleep! Even in a flare, I am up and down... Type A all the way!! R

Well it has been over 5 years and this stuff does get worse, I am worse now that I was 5 years ago, but I am 5 years older too. Guest guest
Peace sister, I have had several surgeries due to congenital defects that included open heart surgery, eye surgery, a hysteroplasty and finally a hysterectomy. Over my lifetime I have received multiple blood transfusions, the last being when I lost my first son and the placenta would not detach and was left to bleed out through the night because the physician did not want to come in at midnight to do a D&C. Instead he ordered 6 units of blood until he could get in in the morning. As a Air Force brat I received multiple vaccinations then again when attending Nursing school. Before my open heart surgery I suffered with and survived rheumatic fever, scarlet fever and endocarditis. I feel between the blood transfusions, multiple vaccinations, fevers and infection in my heart my immune system has been greatly compromised and this is what has contributed to my FMS. I used to be a type A personality. I think you would have to be to survive the life threatening diseases and defects I did. But just before turning 40 my spiritual journey led me to a retreat with Thich Nhat Hanh ( a Zen Buddhist monk) and learned mindful living, mindful meditation and committed to the 5 mindful trainings where I received my Dharma name " Peaceful Life of the Heart " . Since then I have learned to quiet myself, stay calm and not allow things to get to me. Guest guest
, I never had any surgery before a specific period of time I could say the Fibro just came on. In fact, I don't have my actual diagnosis yet. But I can look back and see the symptoms coming on for years and years. I don't think I can pin point any specific time other than it's been gradual and constant for about 10-15 years. During that time I had 3 D$C's for miscarriages, and I had another D&C and a tonsilectomy. If we are looking for possible causes, they say trauma is a possible cause. I grew up with a physically abusive dad, and then married an abusive husband. The abuse issues have been worked out after 17 years of marriage and a few times of throwing his butt in jail. But if post traumatic stress has anything to do with it, I certainly have enough reasons in my past. They also think it could be tied to childbirth and I have had 4 children plus 3 miscarriages. That could certainly explain why this happens to so many woman. They talk about car accidents too and I have been in 2 minor fender benders so who knows? ttyl Suzi

Guest guest
I would definately say I am a type A personality. When I started my daycare I immediately started doing it 24 hours per day 7 days per week. For 15 years I only averaged 2-3 days off per year and I took only one vacation during those 15 years. I cared for literally hundreds of children through the years averaging about 15-20 children on the books at any one time between the 3 shifts, part and full timers. I quit the daycare when we moved here and started putting a garden in. I have been averaging about 3-5 hours per day out there the last few weeks, but was out there 6-8 hours per day the first couple of weeks. I try to make myself slow down, but I just don't know how. During my years of daycare, I would find family and friends to help out so that I could try other things as well. I became a licensed insurance sales person, licensed real estate agent, and sold just about every type of home business product I could find. This is a real problem for me. I am so afraid that this illness is going to stop me from doing what I do. It's becoming harder and harder to water my garden and it's so big now that it takes 3 hours minimum to do that in this desert heat. I took up mosaicing and today my husband told me he wants the big piece I am working on done by this weekend. I told him there is no way because my hands hurt so bad right now. He told me that I just needed to do it anyway. I am so mad at his attitude right now! Sometimes I think I just want to run away and check into this little church run shelter for woman and children and just never come out. If only I didn't have my 2 year old that needs me so much. My other children could probably care less since they are all in that selfish teenage phase. So do you all think that we can find a way out of this mess by altering our minds and our lifestyles? ttyl Suzi

Guest guest
I have had three children and on all three, I had placenta previa, where the placenta breaks apart and falls, all children I bled with, my water never broke. The first though they took vaginally, the second due to heavy bleeding had to come c section. After the second child, I lost a child, then had my third child, my little girl. She was called " the miracle baby " by my gyno doctor. I went into work that day, it was a month before my due date, started feeling very fatigue, and I guess I went ghostly white because the man I worked with at the time just looked at me, and called the office manager to come down and check on me, I hadnt said anything to them about feeling bad even though I was, but by the time the managaer got down to check on me, I had started bleeding. They rushed me to the hospital,(got pulled over by the cops...speeding)and 20 minutes later they were doing the c-section, she was coming backwards, I was bleeding awfully, so they took her. Then two years later I had to have a hysterectomy due to awful pain constantly and heavy bleeding. I've had two previous cysts removed from my ovaries between the children as well. I have always been border line anemic. I had to take extra iron when pregnant, which resulted in stool softeners as well. I was an awful pregnant person...very ill, very sick, 9 months of agony but...when I look at my children today, playing, smiling and bringing peace and happiness to my life...it was all worth it. Well, that's my stories. a Faye --- Peaceful Life of the Heart myrrhsea@...> wrote: > Peace sister, > > I have had several surgeries due to congenital > defects that included open > heart surgery, eye surgery, a hysteroplasty and > finally a hysterectomy. > Over my lifetime I have received multiple blood > transfusions, the last being > when I lost my first son and the placenta would not > detach and was left to > bleed out through the night because the physician > did not want to come in at > midnight to do a D&C. But just before turning 40 > my spiritual journey led me to a retreat with Thich Nhat Hanh ( a Zen > Buddhist monk) and learned mindful living, mindful meditation and committed > to the 5 mindful trainings where I received my Dharma name " Peaceful Life of > the Heart " . Since then I have learned to quiet myself, stay calm and not > allow things to get to me.
Guest guest
I don't know Suzi, but I certainly think it would help by doing so. As soon as I figure out how to make a 180 lifestyle change, I'll let you know! lol I'm so much a control-freak-ish type A it's not funny. But I really do try to not " sweat the small stuff " ... and really it IS all small stuff. I just have to keep reminding myself of that lol > > So do you all think that we can find a way out of this mess by altering our minds and our lifestyles? > > ttyl > Suzi
