Hi ,

I was able to drive around town, trips under an hour, during weeks 3,4, &

5. Getting in and out was more delicate than driving. At six weeks drove from

Niagara Falls, NY area to Columbia, SC for post op checkup. Side trips to

sville, NC, Asheville NC, on the way down, and to ton, SC after

the doctor extended the seven day trip to 2500 Miles. ( Full size car ). Each

day sightseeing included 2 to 5 miles of continuous walking, while two days at

the Biltmore Estate was a stair master challenge. No side effects diving or

walking.

After one day home resting, it was off to Brooklyn, NY for our

grand-daughters first birthday. That's only 430 miles, but with traffic and two

brief pit stops it's usually nearly seven hours. About the same for the return

trip, three days later. Again, plenty of walking there, and no side effects. (

Compact size car ).

After two days rest at home it was off to Cleveland, Oh for a wedding.

That's only about three hours ( 200 miles ). ( Compact size car ). Not too

much walking but danced all night. After a nights rest, some sightseeing and a

three hour return trip. No side effects of any kind.

Of course , you must remember my steering wheel was on the proper side

of the car, I was shifting with the proper hand, and I was driving on the proper

side of the road. I've taken three separate vacation trips to England, Ireland

and Scotland and found the driving to be a little bit more demanding than here.

Lets see it's go from point " A " to point " B " as fast as you possibly can and

don't dare make a mistake.

Although I have " Corin " repair parts made in the UK, everybody is a

little bit different in recovery. Listen to your body, do all of your range of

motion exercises, and carefully, faithfully stretch.

Good Luck. Regards, Nor. ( Dr Gross 3-31-04 )

,

I drived 10 or 11 days post-op (depends on how you count it). I had my

left hip resurfaced on July 8 and was driving July 18.

However, of all my activities, driving seems to take the largest toll. I a

not comfortable sitting on my rear for a long time in the car and something

having my left leg relatively stationary for even a half hour in that

position makes it stiff. Also, getting in an out of a vehicle (I have a

large Land Cruiser, automatic transmission, relatively easy to get in and

out of) is one of the more difficult things that I am doing.

I can't imagine spending more than a hour or two driving at this point (Day

15).

Dear all,

I drive for a living - could all of you post-ops let me know how

soon before you all felt fit enough to drive post op? I sometimes

have to drive for several hours and I need to give my boss a

realistic idea of my post-op limitations.

I guess that although driving is banned for x weeks post op, the

tolerance of long drives takes longer. What is your experience?

Thanks
