Guest guest
This will be really boring for some of you. The composition of the waltz/variations is finished. What happens now is: I go through it note by note to prepare it for publication and sight-reading. Time consuming enough, but it's fast these days. (It's gotten to the point I can basically TYPE in music, without having to use music keyboards or the mouse. Neat.) I freeze that version. I also go through to polish a computer-generated performance of it. First the software plays it back into a file that I can move between programs. Once I've settled on that software performance (right now, I'm listening to 10 versions of it -- played on ten different " pianos " -- to pick the most natural sound), I can manipulate every detail until I get a performance that sounds like I played a real piano in a real room. (I played for over 30 years before being forced to stop; I still know a piano in and out, ghost-playing with my hands to try out music...) Then I can " publish " the score and performance electronically. I have reasonably high standards for myself, so it takes some time. There. Prose to go to sleep by.
